Postdoc at @CornellBirds, @westsyduhie working on the song and dance displays of lyrebirds. Interested in bioacoustics and all things conservation

Excited (and saddened?) to share a new study with @lyrebirdlab linking cultural diversity in the Albert's #lyrebird to #habitatfragmentation. Individuals with less habitat availability mimic fewer species, despite most species occurring in all study sites.

Simply incredible new work from @fiona_backhouse and @lyrebirdlab. Albert's Lyrebirds rhythmically shake the vegetation on their courtship platform, synchronizing the movement with their vocalizations to enhance the performance! 🤯 🎥 Fiona Backhouse

Thanks for having me on the show this morning! It was great to share more about these fabulous animals and the threats to their cultures.
They're said to be the world's great mimics but the lyrebird's phenomenal voicebox could soon go quiet. A new study by Western Sydney University has found these magnificent creatures are starting to lose their songs. #Studio10

Let us introduce you to this shy performer and convince you that the Albert’s lyrebird is worthy of as much attention as its limelight-stealing sister species, the superb lyrebird.

Do I like data? When it looks pretty like this I do #Datavisualization .

I wanted to see how daily patterns emerge at the individual level and how a person’s entire day plays out. So I simulated 1,000 of them.
