This mechanism blurs the line between parallel evolution and ecotype dispersal, making the distinction less clear-cut than commonly assumed!.

These variants, located within chromosomal inversions, later became established on recent islands through adaptive introgression, either from pure ecotypes or from individuals polymorphic for these variants.

Genomic insight of a gradual divergence of Calosoma beetles on the Galapagos demonstrate how an initial ancient divergence event led to the evolution of genetic variants responsible for ecotype divergence.

More dispersive species persist, but their species richness declines at larger spatial scales due to the homogenization of urban environments. Highly dispersive species thrive in urban environments, but add little to the urban species pool as they also occur in natural habitats.

Using carabid beetles, we demonstrate that depending on their dispersal capacity, highly different mechanisms underlie species richness declines in urban environments.
