There is not one family friendly city in the US. There are kid friendly cities, and there are adult friendly cities. Not both. Europe does it much better than we do.

In my market, foreign investors bought $13.7b worth of homes in 2024 ALONE. Often, all cash. The homes are empty. No intention of living in them, or renting them out. People who actually live here can’t compete with these offers and the prices have skyrocketed, due to limited.

The real issue? . For middle-class families, having kids forces a painful trade: suburban sprawl, car dependence, and leaving behind urban jobs and networks. People want big families. But cities make them too expensive—in dollars and daily logistics.

I pay a lot more to live in a suburb in socal than I did to live in nyc. biggest cost increases are car ownership and childcare. I didn't own a car in nyc, in california the costs are $1000/m. in nyc, I received free childcare for provided by the city, here I have to pay for it.

Zohran's policies that I'm excited about:. - Car free school zones, so kids can walk to school safely. - Lowering the speed limit. - Adding cameras to buses to capture people blocking the bus lane. - Expanding daylighting to more cross walks. - Bringing back outdoor dining.

I don’t agree with some of his policy but he is a breath of fresh air because he seems to genuinely give a shit about people living in the city. Who would have thought.
I’m excited for Zohran even if I don’t buy every policy — we need to elect leaders that people (esp young) are *affirmatively excited* about vs. establishment heirs who people hold their nose and vote for. without that energy, democracy is dead.

Linked up with @farhadnoorzay at the @Hoopfit_ HQ. I got to use one of his units. It was great. Farhad didn’t have a background in hardware. He had an idea, and spent years learning and developing Hoopfit on his own. Love to see founders making their dreams come true.

My favorite thing about working for @netflix is building tech for the film & tv industry (coining this as FilmTech). I get to work on problems at the intersection of creativity, scale, storytelling, & AI. I've always loved film & tv and I'm just grateful to be a part of it.
