I am In Kombolcha, Ethiopia. It is a strategic town in this war and here’s what I’ve been able to glean: Both Kombolcha and Dessie remain under ENDF control. We have seen buses and trucks full of fighters headed toward the front line. Here’s video of one convoy of militias: 1/
Heavy fighting continues well north of here. But residents say yesterday there was heavy fighting close to town. They heard gunfire and heavy artillery. Local officials say they repelled a tplf attack. 2/
In both of these towns, there are already tens of thousands of people who have fled fighting over the past few months, and especially the past two weeks. Many are sleeping outside and have little food. 3/
The biggest problem is they are terrified that if the fighting follows them here, they will have nowhere to run. For some I spoke to, this would be the third time having to flee. One man, desperate for this war to be over, told me, “Maybe this is just the place we all die.” 4/4
@eyderp
Guy, are you sure peoples seen in these trucks are fighters/militias? How come fighters/militias “headed toward” in warfront with flags rather than guns? This is totally unlivable!!
@eyderp
@eyderp
your reporting reminds me of network journalists who were embedded with the US army during the Iraq & Afghanistan wars. Are you embedded with ENDF? Why are you not reporting the mass arrests & daylight murder of Tigrayans in Combolcha, Dessie & other towns vacated by TDF?
@eyderp
All it take is One 130 mm to disperse this untrained & unmotivated farmers into the thin air. Their is absolutely nothing will stop TDF from moving forward but it's a good thing that the residents are wanting this war to be over. It's a good sign that this war is coming to an end
@eyderp
Eyder, be advised accounts from pro-Tigray/TPLF accounts are not credible as they have a clear agenda to spin everything & lie to advance their political agenda. I realize finding credible info is difficult but I hope true journalists will take the extra time to do the job right.
@eyderp
“Fighters”? Where on earth do you witness armies equipped with a machete? This speaks ENDF, Amhara special forces, and Fano are wiped out by the previous engagement with
#TDF
. You can’t defend strategic towns with ill-equipped people. They are simply cannon fodders. Alas!
@eyderp
@ZemenuYA
Thank you for firsthand reporting. But I don't see why government is letting unarmed civilians join the war front. Is there a shortage of military personnel or rifles?
@eyderp
Thos civilian monilisation to war front is use of himan shield and human wave by the
#Ethiopian
and
#Amhara
rulers. This will only multiply bloodshed. Now it is clear that these untrained militia are considered as combatants despite ill-armed
