Really proud of how I got into this large codebase and began to make contributions immediately.

In software engineering, this benefit falls under facilitated refactoring and regression prevention. Whatever it’s called, I love it. Now I have a question: shouldn’t we also test our tests? 😂

With tests, all I had to do was run the test command and be programmatically informed whether my changes broke anything or not.

Without prewritten and passing tests, I would have had to manually test every endpoint one by one, and still, there would have been no guarantee that nothing was broken.

Today is #Day5 of building #Timesheets By Exploit in public. I recently refactored parts of the codebase to ensure DRYness.

I used to wonder what the importance of writing tests was, until I had to do some refactoring to a portion of the codebase I'm building. And then it dawned on me: the reason why best practices are called best practices. 🧵

Thanks to #Tspec, I don't have to clog my files with humongous #jsdoc in the name of documentation. As for #swaggerui, what would I do without you? Probably use .md for my documentation 😂 If you got this far, thanks for reading! I hope it was worth your while 😊 Cheers 🥂

According to #gemini, Tspec is a documentation tool for TypeScript that automatically generates OpenAPI specifications with a visually appealing Swagger UI. For me, #Tspec is the package that made my life 10x simpler.

I was initially going to use swagger-jsdoc. However, the boilerplate I had to write left me spiralling into doom. Then, while researching on how to make life easier for myself and keep my code dry, I came across #Tspec 🤩 What is #Tspec?

Documentation was my least favourite part of development... Up until I found #Tspec Welcome to #day4 of building in public. Today, I made a giant leap. I set up development documentation. 🧵

Did you know: A standalone MongoDB deployment doesn't support transactions. This is because transactions in MongoDB depend on properties inherent to Replica Set architecture to ensure ACID properties across multiple documents & collections. I think it's nice to know 😊

This is Day 3 of building my project in public. I'm calling it Timesheets for now. What's the progress? You might ask. Well, we've just completed the signup feature! And all tests are passing!!!

I wasn't going to wait to have it all figured out. I wasn't going to wait for the perfect moment. I was going to build and take the world along on my journey. What if I never finish? But how would I know if I never start?

I did exactly what I didn't want to do. Which is to share my progress right from day 1.

It was in that moment, I realised I had to let go of the fear of failure. I have failed so many times, therefore, I could completely justify that fear. But I wasn't going to make my decision based on fear.

I vividly remember the enthusiasm I had when I started building this project. But as is with stepping out of your comfort zone, the mental pullback surfaced to counter my enthusiasm.
