花祭りの榊鬼が踏む「へんべ」は反閇であるとされ、秋冬に衰えた大地を踏みしめ活力を与え豊穣と安穏を寿ぐ、とされる。そして盛り上がると榊鬼と一緒に村人、観衆も一緒に踊り舞う。それはもうその場にいる皆で反閇を踏むということである。これこそ最高の呪力、最高の祝祭である…と心から思う。
午前3:40、花祭りの主役「榊鬼」が降臨。宮人との問答に負けた鬼は「へんべ」を舞う。大地を踏み冬に衰えた生命力を復活させる、という説明がされる。へんべはもちろん「反閇」。陰陽道の呪的歩行法である。
