i hate how physical touch as a love language gets reduced to sex and kissing when it’s more like… handholding, laying your head on their shoulder, putting your legs over their lap, tracing their palm, tucking your feet under their thighs. just touching for touching’s sake.
the five homoerotic love languages:
- intimate stabbing
- outright obsession
- confused pining
- “no one knows me like you do”
- lifelong promises that always sound suspiciously like wedding vows
“bi people in m/f relationships are still queer rep” and “creators often use bi characters in m/f relationships as a way to claim representation without having to take the risk of portraying queer relationships” are two statements that should (and do) coexist.
i love you religious imagery when describing relationships i love you romantic and platonic devotion i love you comparisons of praying and touching i love you metaphors of your loved one’s body being your temple i love you blasphemous use of religious language to describe sex
me in real life: sex can be meaningless and you can love people before you meet your partner and that doesnt make what you have with them less special in any way.
me writing fanfiction: and then they fell in love at 15 and could never ever again even look at anyone else <3
oikawa talking in spanish to practice his accent while on call with iwaizumi. iwa has no idea what he’s saying, just likes to hear his voice. iwa’s roommate, however, is latino and overhears the call and goes “dude hes been confessing his love for 20 min, arent u gonna say smth”
curse you furudate for creating a story so perfectly developed where each arc integrates seamlessly with the next and depriving me of my biggest dream: haikyuu filler episodes
i love fwb to lovers so much because it makes us rethink what intimacy really means. sex is sex, but did they mean to brush against me like that? youre allowed to fuck them, but are you allowed to stay the night? it has you reading whole ass smut but blushing at handholding
there’s something deeply weird behind it but its not my job to go into that. im just saying if a shrink and a feminist theorist went to a bar together they’d discuss this for 4 hours over a beer
also!! the presence of “problematic” themes within a book doesn’t automatically mean the author stands by that. if you need a book to explicitly say “this morally wrong thing is in fact morally wrong” then maybe you shouldn’t be reading books at all
The desire to exclusively engage w/ media/art made by “unproblematic”???? artists is a direct result of Americans viewing media consumption as an inherently political act bc it’s seemingly all that’s left. We’ve been stripped & socialized out of any real political energy & agency
oikawa: te quiero tanto y tu ni siquiera lo sabes
iwaizumi: *completely neutral playing on his phone*
iwa’s latino college roomie, wide eyed: UH DUDE????
i think atsumu’s accent gets fainter while osamu’s stays apparent and sometimes after he hangs up the phone atsumu thinks about how they’re getting more and more different and for someone who always wanted that he’s not too fond of it once it starts to happen
when the character mentions in passing that they’ve had relationships with the same gender but have their love interest always be of the opposite gender. thats creators trying to get diversity points without offending the radically straight. its a mainstream media tactic, not rep
hinata shoyo most relatable anime protagonist because i can empathize with the concept of meeting kageyama tobio once and deciding to make him the central pillar of my belief system&motivation
hear me out: shoyo does this so much he ends up sort of conditioning tobio pavlov style to come hug him whenever he opens his arms without saying a word. one day he just does it to stretch but tobio sees it from the corner of his eye and gets up to hug him immediately
obsessed with the idea of bokuto finding akaashi’s old journals from high school and seeing 37 of his weaknesses listed. he adds number 38: akaashi keiji.
@Imaniwithit
girl im short as hell 😭😭 im just saying theyre written to be infantilized when theyre described every two pages as small innocent fragile etc
ok it’s time we have this conversation. jkr isn’t “problematic”. she isn’t someone who said or wrote something uneducated and will work on it or whatever. jkr ACTIVELY PROMOTES ANTI TRANS POLICIES AND PLATFORMS. that’s not “problematic”, that’s CRIMINAL.
kiyoomi's parents dont support his career so they never go to his games. atsumu notices and makes his mom and osamu start bringing signs for omi too. they're not even dating yet. atsumu just thinks no one should have to play without someone cheering for you.
i mean. if you consider that haikyuu has basically no romance and that every theme is explored through volleyball metaphors then when you take into account kageyama and hinata’s narratives (starting and ending with each other) kagehina is basically as canon as it gets
the fact that kageyama’s response to hinata’s “im here” in the msby x adlers was “took you long enough” is clear indication that not only he was waiting for him, he also had no doubt he’d catch up, never doubted his potential in this essay i will
bokuto adds boku- as a prefix to everything. he cooks bokubreafast. he gives energizing bokuhugs. he wakes up akaashi with bokukisses. he goes to bokusleep.
we talk a lot about how kageyama was lonely before hinata but honestly? i think hinata was lonely too. not in a “i have no friends” kind of way but in a “none of my friends truly understand me” way. didn’t he say it himself? kageyama wasn’t his first friend, but his first partner
tobio comes to visit his boyfriend in MSBY practice and he’s watching skts bickering and fighting in an oh so familiar way and going “ooooh theyre still at that stage. got it. kinda embarrassing right theyre in their 20s? anyway update me on that later”
i just loooove when queer authors allow themselves to write ambiguous, controversial, fucked up narratives. cishets have been using themes like these to represent their experiences for centuries. queer authors shouldnt have to sanitize their art to make it acceptable!!!!!
cardan greenbriar never had a bad track. by you i am forever undone???? banger. kiss me until i am sick of it???? cultural reset. my great villain, my darling god????? life changing. do not touch her, she’s my wife????? iconic. he’s the ultimate book valentine
atsumu being disproportionately frustrated at kghn's will-they-wont-they. becuse theyre OBVIOUSLY in love WHY cant they figure it out. hes ranting to osamu and samu interrupts him to ask "hows sakusa btw" and atsumu says "how is that related" and osamu faceplants on the table.
miwa definitely convinced tobio at some point to let her do a little bit of eyeliner on him before a fancy v. league gala event because “don’t you trust your big sister, pleaaaaase” and then when he showed up with his gorgeous blue eyes lined hinata nearly fainted
we dont talk abt this nearly enough but leigh bardugo deserves mad respect for writing that kanej ending. instead of using the “i can fix him” trope she went ahead and made the girl character say “you know what? i CANT fix him and im not letting this break me”
btw a mutual (thank you so much by the way!!) brought this to my attention and i just want to clarify that i used queer in this context as a synonym for same gender. i myself am bi in a f/m relationship and would never want to imply that i’m not in a queer relationship
problematic authors to avoid:
maggie stiefvater - killed noah czerny twice
v. e. schwab - ruined my life
micah nemerever - pretentious about chess
nora sakavic - an affront to sports fans everywhere
m. l. rio - shakespeare apologist
dona tartt - rotten vibes
every now and then they’ll disagree on something major and atsumu says “we used to sound more like each other” and osamu replies “well, you moved away” and neither of them are only talking about the accent
and most of all i love it when its lgbt!!!!! like yes bitches subvert the religious and divine experience!!! use it to describe the very thing they teach us to hate!!!!
will NEVER get over the fact that kageyama was the one who gave hinata the title of greatest decoy, the one who made him believe it was just as valuable as being the ace. and then the winning point in the msby x adlers match was scored because hinata acted as the perfect decoy.
and the YEARNING of getting to touch someone in the way thats usually seen as the endgame of a romantic relationship but youre still not happy because you want more than that. chefs kiss
oh my god i muted this and now its at 40k wtf anyways read these violent delights by micah nemerever. it has nothing to do with the original tweet i just think its a neat book.
tired: hinata says i love you first because hes better with feelings
based: kageyama says i love you first because he always says what he thinks and feels around hinata without considering consequences
there is something so personal to me abt the scenario where kghn are an established thriving couple and kageyama follows the skts pining drama like old ladies follow soap operas
//
#kghn
, fluff, getting together, high school kghn
“what’s on your mind?” hinata asks, head cocked to the side and eyes narrowed.
kageyama doesn’t even lift his gaze, keeps filing his nails meticulously. “that i’m hungry.”
“really?”
do you know what i think about often? that there was no reason for furudate to make kageyama and hinata’s birthdays the winter & summer solstice respectively. no reason. it adds nothing to the story and it’s barely mentioned. he only did it to show us theyre soulmates. unreal.
hinata having stretch marks due to bulking up too fast in brazil.
kageyama running his fingers lightly over them, admiring them as physical proof of his dedication and growth.
wait, last one i promise: the first time atsumu's family comes for kiyoomi, his mom's sign says "OMI" and kiyoomi shoots atsumu a death glare, he cannot believe he told his MOTHER to write his infamous nickname on the sign oh my god
thought: hinata posts a mirror selfie on his instagram’s close friends of him wearing a comically shrunken tshirt-now-turned-croptop with the caption “guess who’s still struggling with the washing machine”
kageyama watches the story so many times his shitty phone crashes.
kghn wedding vows: i promise to beat you in every little competition we come up with for the rest of my life
tsukki, sliding down the seat in pure anguish: how. how much longer of this will i have to take. it’s been twenty years.
oh by the way i tweeted this because i was thinking about an iwaizumi and oikawa fanart. i feel like thats important to add. ship iwaoi for clear skin <3
i need an episode of that light novel chapter where they send hinata to get food for the team and then hours pass and hes nowhere to be found. so they send kageyama after him. but kageyama gets lost too and when the team finds them theyre cheerfully chatting abt volleyball
hinata talking to himself on the mirror before going: its fine you can totally deal with being in love with him in a normal way no one will ever know
kageyama, walking in with eyeliner: hey
hinata: are you fucking kidding me right now
tshoeh stans are you ready to see twt being filled with people shipping evelynharry romantically and calling evelyncelia toxic because i sure as hell am not
touchy kageyama is so dear to me. i dont mean intentionally clingy, i mean touchy so casually like its second nature. legs pressed together. shoulders bumping. hand on hinata’s hair for no reason. doesn’t even realize it, but as soon as he’s near hinata, he needs to be touching.
atsumu's mom just sort of INCORPORATES kiyoomi into their family, makes signs for him and brings food for him too. she's his mother in law ages before atsumu and him actually get together
concept: 2nd year hinata briefly injures his shoulder and kageyama has to help him with all sorts of things to avoid making it worse. everyone in the locker room pretends not to notice the two idiots blushing when kageyama takes a towel and dries hinata’s hair.
do you think at the end of their last practice with karasuno tobio looked at his friends and said "see you next-" and then stopped himself short as his brain adjusted to the reality of life without this
even if a morally vile thing is never condemned within the book, that still doesn’t mean the author stands by it. there is such a thing as bad characters who are bad people and do bad things and if you need an in-book confirmation that it is bad you lack reading comprehension
you can love a character & still admit when they’re wrong. i love sasuke but i acknowledge his flaws (none he’s perfect) & can hold him accountable for his wrongdoings (he’s never done anything wrong in his life) & call him out on his actions (which are always right)
