This week, advocates are joining together in D.C. to celebrate the relentless effort put forth by the Bristol Bay Defense Fund. @EPA can be a hero and help protect #BristolBay for good. It all starts with a Clean Water Act 404(c) veto. End the threat.

"The infrastructure that Pebble would bring would change the face of Bristol Bay sport fishing industry permanently—and not for the better. It would take away jobs and opportunities from the community." – Nanci Morris Lyon, Bear Trail Lodge 📸 Dave McCoy

Alaskans have lived under the threat of Pebble Mine for decades. They know the devastation this massive open-pit mine would bring to the Bristol Bay watershed. An overwhelming majority of Alaskans want the @EPA to finally do something about it. #VetoPebbleMine

Alaska's move to take over Clean Water Act permitting could make it easier for projects like Pebble to get permitted. More from @EENewsUpdates #NoPebbleMine #ProtectBristolBay

I remain hopeful that by season’s end we can celebrate two realities: record salmon runs and durable protections for Alaska's pristine and irreplaceable Bristol Bay.

Today, the people of Bristol Bay begin yet another year under the threat of Pebble Mine. But we are now closer than ever to real, long-term protections. This year the @EPA must stop Pebble Mine once and for all.

The Nushagak River represents one of the most important salmon fishery habitats in the world, supporting local communities throughout its 280-mile run. It’s located downstream of the proposed Pebble Mine, which if built, would spread toxic waste throughout the entire watershed.

From mining expert Rich Borden (& @NRDC): "If short and consensus long-term metals prices returned to the values from 2019, [Pebble] would almost certainly have a negative NPV measured in the many hundreds of millions to multiple billions of dollars."

75 million salmon. That’s the Alaska Department of Fish and Game’s forecast for next summer’s Bristol Bay salmon return. If actualized, it will blow this year’s record-breaking 66 million salmon out of the water. Protect the salmon, #VetoPebbleMine.
