As in most previous years, all attendees will receive a scholarship that covers most or all travel and lodging expenses. There will be no registration fee.

The next ERP Boot Camp will be in Davis, California in the Summer of 2026. The specific dates will be announced around January 1, 2026, and the application portal will open around the same time.

Good news: We have received another 5 years of funding from the National Institute of Mental Health, so we plan to hold ERP Boot Camps in each of the next 5 summers.

Although I was really hoping to provide evidence that the P3b is related to working memory encoding, and we looked hard to find this evidence, I no longer believe that this is a viable hypothesis.

In addition, single-trial P3b amplitude was unrelated to working memory accuracy.

As in hundreds of prior studies, the P3b component was much larger for oddballs than for standards. Working memory performance was statistically significantly better for oddballs than for standards, but these effects were tiny compared to the P3b effect.

We used an oddball paradigm with rare “oddball” stimuli and frequent “standard” stimuli, but the paradigm was modified so that we could precisely measure the contents of working memory, both behaviorally and via ERP decoding.

I’ve written a blog post about it, but I will provide a brief summary here.

A common idea is that the P3b ERP component (aka P300) reflects the updating of working memory. However, there aren’t any direct tests of this hypothesis. In a new paper (with @CDCarrasco, @simmonsaam, @john_kiat), we provided a test of this hypothesis.

We will not be offering an ERP Boot Camp in Summer 2025, but our plan is to resume in Summer 2026. In the meantime, you can host a Mini ERP Boot Camp at your institution! If interested, please email us at erpbootcamp@gmail.com for more info
