This is great. I play war-games. A lot of war-games. I used to write physics simulations for a living. Now I make war-games for a living. I don't think of D&D as a war-game or simulation. For me it's a creative game, as Holmes writes in "D&D" and as Serban Ionita describes here.

Served on what I call "4:1 Potatoes" -- 4 parts mashed Yukon Golds to 1 part butter -- with a little bowl of mizeria salad on the side. I briefly pickled the red onion and used English cucumbers -- which I aggressively salted to remove water. I hate watery mizeria.

I made city chicken recently with 1:4 ground veal and 3:4 pork. Mixed Montreal seasoning, onion soup mix, and garlic into it. Deep fried for 1-2 minutes, finished for 20 min. in a slow oven with that most favorite of Polish-American staples: cream of mushroom soup.

Once you buy the rules, the game is yours to do what you want. This guy posted a Module he made when he was 12. Everything has been so corporatized now. RPGs used to be a tool kit for your Imagination to go wild. Dungeons & Dragons culture was very much in the DIY mindset.
