On Monday, Speaker @JavierForNM & legislative leaders warned against proceeding with flawed bills in a special session. “We have deep concerns about the potential impact these proposals will have on New Mexicans, especially the most vulnerable among us.”

We must get all hands on deck to transform the behavioral health system. "Despite major investments, the state still has poor outcomes, particularly for young people." When it takes on average 10 phone calls to get 1 BH appointment, the system is broken. #nmleg @nmpol
New Mexico has slowly added badly-needed behavioral health providers in recent years, but much of that growth has been in a network that no longer serves Medicaid patients, a state analyst told lawmakers this week. https://t.co/DQN59U4Vih

Today was a win for democracy, a win for lgbtq New Mexicans- a win for our communities. We look forward to working with legislators and the administration to develop real solutions that are data driven, and developed by the people closest to the problems. #nmleg

The pleas of 40+ advocacy orgs and mental health experts have been dismissed by @GovMLG. She said we're proposing "doing nothing." This is a disingenuous characterization. #NMleg Our response: https://t.co/ayVZ1JYtbj

Many of the struggles our state is facing are decades in the making, and stem from a sustained underinvestment in essential community services. They cannot be solved through punishment and coercion.

The governor’s court-ordered model of forcing people with mental health issues into locked facilities will cause trauma, erode trust in treatment, and violate people’s rights. Widely accessible voluntary treatment is the answer. Coercion isn’t care.

The governor’s anti-panhandling bill dressed up in public safety clothes will saddle unhoused people with fines and jail time, making it harder to attain jobs and housing. Housing solves homelessness – not punishment.

We, along with dozens of other organizations, are calling on @GovMLG to halt her plans for a special legislative session on public safety. Her proposals will not make us any safer – while threatening the rights, health, and autonomy of New Mexicans. #NMleg
