hope everyone is doing well, will manage to improve the editor in 0.99.5.x. some features are:
maximum canvas size is increased to 256^3;
rendering method is changed to ray casting;
brushes are half GPU-based; etc.

The new unified material system allows linear blending between Metal/Plastic/Glass materials (like Disney Principled BSDF) by using the "Blend" mode:
1. metallic: plastic/glass -> metal
2. transparency: plastic -> glass
3. ior : diffuse -> plastic

: to use the new camera panel to render precise pixel art:
1. use orthogonal camera;
2. image->height should be multiples (1x, 2x, 3x) of camera->zoom (here height equals zoom)
3. disable sample->anti-aliasing
basically added an option to show the sun disk in the sky (the green circle button besides the "Sun") and an Ozone factor to the out-scattering attenuation to increase the blue tone of the sky
