My experiences in VR (whether it be games/exercising/meditation and productivity apps) have generally been extremely uplifting, and have enhanced my engagement and appreciation of the physical world.

But I do not see the medium as the message. Technology has always been simultaneously constructive and destructive to our society, depending on the intentions behind its use.

This has led to some disastrous impacts on mental health and our social fabric. As our tech becomes more immersive, these problems have the potential of multiplying.

I do however believe there are dangers and ethical questions we need to ask ourselves when toying with new and powerful technologies. Many people are already spending more time in digital spaces (whether it be gaming or social media) than in the 'real' world.

I believe it has the ability to revolutionise the ways we build, enhance human connection and deepen our understandings of consciousness.

Some people I speak to about VR are fearful of a matrix-style dystopia where societies enter into a fabricated reality, leaving the outside world in ruins. My own VR experiences lead me to a more optimistic view, of a virtual and augmented world integrated with the physical.
