I feel like western fantasy storytelling’s tendency to tell stories based on this “longing for a lost golden age” is rooted in the West’s postwar loss of empires. But I don’t know enough about prewar fantasy storytelling or fantasy in other cultures to be sure. Thoughts?

I just think you could have made Galadriel so much cooler, wiser, and badass than they did. I feel like they did the opposite of making her an empowering female character.

I mostly like season 1, but if it’s going to take 5 seasons for the Noldor to pull their heads out of their asses, no thanks. And no, it’s not because of Peter Jackson not doing it. I had my share of gripes with his movies too.

My biggest problem with it is that Galadriel is treated like a spoiled child. She walked among the Valar, and Gil-galad treats her like she needs to be put down for a nap. It feels like they greatly diminished her character. Plus everyone feels incompetent instead of heroic.

If Swamp Thing were to become the host of the venom symbiote, would the symbiote connect with all of the Green? Or just the “body” of its avatar?

And that’s why y’all undercut the power of unions when they threaten to rock the boat huh? All those things she’s listing happened because unions disrupted the status quo, often violently. And usually fighting against both liberals and conservatives to achieve those goals.

One problem is that they’re presenting an ideal that doesn’t actually exist at the societal level. “Separate but equal” only ends up perpetuating master/servant dynamics. Might this work for individual family units? Sure. But they’d be the exception, not the norm.

I really hate Gordon Ramsay’s fat-antagonism on Hell’s Kitchen. It really makes me dislike him even more than I already did.

And why do they keep making her subordinate to Gil-galad and Elrond? She’s like 1500 years older than both, she lived before the Exile of the Noldor, walked among the Vanar in Valinor. She was also proud and independent. Why does she need to submit to the males?

Like this show actually does Galadriel a huge disservice. She should already be well respected, regarded for her wisdom, and quite powerful by the Second Age. Why did the show have to diminish her the way it does?

Why do y’all love incompetent heroes so much? I just don’t get it.

Like, let heroes be heroic without waiting 5 seasons to get there.
