CBC is well aware it uses sanitized language to describe Israel's killing of Gazans.
They actually believe it's justified because Israel kills people "remotely" instead of face-to-face.
We have an email from a CBC manager saying so:
@TheBreachMedia
It seems pertinent to point out that Doug Ford's government cancelled curriculum re-writing sessions with residential school survivors in 2018 + shut down the office of the child advocate, who investigated deaths of kids in foster care, a disproportionate # of whom are Indigenous
It's no wonder CTV's coverage of Israel's violence in Gaza is so one-sided.
Internal emails show journalists are forbidden from using the term "Palestine," with a senior editor making the charged claim that "Palestine...does not currently exist."
Premier Ford, at a press conference about the pandemic that has killed 3,916 Ontarians: “Folks, this carbon tax is gonna be the worst thing you could ever see.”
Hundreds of graves were found at another forced assimilation school for Indigenous children in Canada — weeks after remains of 215 children were found.
150,000 children were held in the mostly Catholic-run schools, thousands dying from abuse.
The church has never apologized.
Families warned Doug Ford about the conditions at Orchard Villa, where 79 people have died with COVID, for weeks before the military’s report came out.
At one point, they called his office every hour for three days and didn’t hear back

Jesse is leaving out an awful lot of details here.
Not only was the “one guy” Robinson met with UBC’s president, she also suggested herself that she was directing universities on how to handle discourse on Gaza.
The request to remove the statement was highly unusual. 1/2
This is very poor journalism.
She met with one guy, and a week later an entirely different guy’s office asked a department to remove a statement.
That’s it. That’s the entire substance of their allegation that she did it.
Unless her being Jewish is to be considered evidence.
Ford tells Horwath "it's like listening to nails on a chalkboard, listening to you."
Speaker reminds him to make comments through the chair, not directly
On one broadcast, CTV gave more airtime to a Canadian who experienced cancelled flights in Tel Aviv than to the only Palestinian person interviewed in Gaza.
Despite the vastly disproportionate suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, CTV has featured 62% more Israeli voices.
More than 40% of Palestinians on the show weren’t even identified by name.
Journalists across platforms owned by CTV's parent company Bell Media told me there is a widespread, systemic bias against Palestinians.
They say Palestinians are "only brought on to cry" and aren't invited back if they speak too critically of Israel.
Bell Media journalists also say they've been told not to cover rallies calling for a ceasefire, and that some stories providing context about Israel's history of violence and occupation have been edited to death or mysteriously never published.
I can't believe this story from yesterday hasn't gotten more attention.
Canada's former PM is helping investors get rich by creating surveillance tech like "behaviour recognition" for Israeli gov'ts, and he calls it a continuation of his work in Ottawa.
I guess it's time to post a lil update on my post-HuffPost life. After a relaxing month spent mostly at the park, I'm back to work, writing for

Thank you to everyone who's already reached out to check in and offer kind words.
I joined HuffPost Canada five years ago and I couldn't imagine a more fun, supportive newsroom or better place to start my career. Shoutout to all my brilliant, clever, creative colleagues
With Hamilton by-election win, Sarah Jama defeated the same cop who had her charged with assault after encampment evictions.
She said her campaign was part of an "experiment" with activists to see what they can accomplish with political power:

Higher-ups at UBC asked Anthropology department to remove its statement on Gaza shortly after the uni's president met with Selina Robinson.
Statement expressed concern with "genocidal violence" and said anti-colonial solidarity is a legitimate position.

Minister Fullerton says Andrea Horwath is "fabricating" claims that long-term care homes with COVID-19 outbreaks are still understaffed.
Horwath hits back, citing my story about Kennedy Lodge, where worker says COVID floor sometimes staffed by HALF:
NDP says it's unbelievable Minister Jones has met 6 times with Canadian Health Labs, a staffing agency raking in hundreds of millions while hospitals are short staffed.
Well, their lobbyist is none other than Christina Mitas, who was a PC MPP til the last election.

Oh boy. NDP has dumped a bunch of photos of Charles McVety's birthday party in November, which a number of government ministers and the "first lady of Ontario" attended
Outings that will be considered essential under Ontario’s order: going to the candle store for pickup, getting a massage, going to the airport to get on a plane for vacation
Even Ford Conservatives say Danielle Smith is doing nothing except fanning the flames of transphobia:
"We don't need to make this a controversy for people who have among the highest suicide rates."
Minister Fullerton in question period: “Our homes are doing well with staffing. There are no issues with staffing collapse."
To
@sherinaharris
1 hour later: “To be clear, I don’t believe I’ve ever said there are no staffing issues."
A president would obviously communicate with VPs and deans.
Not to mention professor Charles Menzies wrote publicly that admin had made it known that statements the minister found distasteful would not be allowed.
Our latest analysis found that CBC's The National featured 42% more Israelis even as 7X more Palestinians died.
CBC also barred journalists from sharing outside reports about Gaza, which goes against its general policy.

Ford's now been asked to withdraw two comments in the span of like 10 seconds. First he says accuses NDP of hypocrisy, then says they're speaking out both sides of their mouth.
"The NDP is the party of 'no.' ... We'll get it done, that's the difference."
I am really lucky to work at one of the handful of indie outlets where doing critical work about Israel and Palestine is not just allowed, but encouraged.

Contrary to CBC's belief, slowly bleeding to death in a bombed building, witnessing it happen to your family and neighbours and living with the constant threat of it happening really is *that bad*
Merrillee Fullerton long used her status as a doctor to undermine public health care systems.
The same talking points she posted to her blog years ago came out of Doug Ford's mouth when he announced the move to private clinics this year

When big grocers say their suppliers are raising prices because of higher input costs, it's just not true.
In many cases, retail food prices are completely detached from the price of their inputs. Just look at how much the price of corn flakes has risen vs. the price of corn
I'm proud of the work I did, especially at Queen's Park and on COVID-19 in long-term care. BuzzFeed has taken our homepage offline, but you can still read my latest story. It was an important one:
The PCs have been trying to intimidate Sarah Jama since she first sought public office.
Their candidate in her election was the same cop who'd had her charged with assault for allegedly running over his toe with her wheelchair
It's the same for bread. Wheat prices did rise a bit since 2020, but they haven't even come close to closing the massive disparity that processors and retailers have created by pushing prices up for years
I've obtained new meeting notes taken by UBC's anthropology grad students' union (AGSA) that back up my reporting on Selina Robinson's possible role in forcing the removal of the department's statement on Gaza.
I was excited to start a new job this week as coordinating editor at

NEW: Ontario hasn’t inspected 98% of long-term care homes for PPE, infection protocol.
Over 7 months of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ford government thoroughly inspected 11 of 651 homes
Ford is asked about NDP's suggestions, he says "we're taking a more balanced approach."

Ford + Fullerton's offices didn't respond to questions about Jennifer's story.
After COVID broke out at her mom's nursing home, Jennifer's calls weren't answered for 5 days. When she went in to say final goodbye, it was a "ghost town" and another resident was begging for water.
New from me today: Climate risk scores could soon be the norm for Canadian real estate listings, and that's already raising questions about who will be able to move to areas of relative safety and who will be left behind
That's it for indoor dining, gyms, casinos, wedding receptions in Toronto, Peel and Ottawa. Ontario is bringing back some Stage 2 restrictions after refusing calls to do so for a week
Education workers stole the limelight with their illegal strike that forced Doug Ford down on Bill 28.

"I've been on these guys like an 800-pound gorilla."
About two weeks before COVID's second wave hit, Ontario told nursing homes that staffing was their responsibility and hospitals might not be able to help.
The government also asked homes to assess their readiness but didn't ask to see the assessments
