The two other bars on the street, straight bars; Porterhouse and The Beer Temple, both had outdoor seating and could allow customers to drink outside. This meant these bars were able to cash in on Pride while the only queer bar lost out on sales and custom.

I'm just disgusted by that video of Leo chuckling and saying that he doesn't believe care should be the State's responability. I constantly worry about who will care for my brother, who is 100% reliant on care, when my parents (62&72) are gone. He gets 7hrs of care each week.

Parliament St is to be pedestrianised from next wkd for summer; 1 week after Pride - the one summer event that pedestrianisation would’ve come in useful here, not to mention the major safety issue. I witnessed cars weaving around crowds all day & multiple people nearly get hit.

Finished this commission recently. It's on the walls of St. Kilian's primary school, which is the primary school I went to as a kid. These walls didn't exist then though, our yard was here, but they got this PE hall built on it since then. It was such a great canvas.

What was once the best place to spend Pride has now been ruined by the people whose job it is to decide what bars get to have outdoor seating, what bars can allow their customers to bring drinks outside, where can have music outdoors and what streets are pedestrianised and when.

Parliament St has one queer bar Street66 (formerly Front Lounge). They applied for the outdoor seating they’ve had the last few years & were refused this year. Days later, a week before Pride, the council hastily threw unneeded bike racks in the load bay where their outdoor seats

The best Pride street party used to be at the back of Front Lounge (Street66) on Exchange Street Upper. There used to be a DJ (when Mother was on this street also), crowds, really good vibes, and you could go in and out the back door of Front Lounge.

This stopped & now Street66 is not even allowed have back doors open (apart from emergency exit), because people in positions of power who decided to buy above/beside a busy bar in the centre of the city then decided they dont like living(or AirBnBin’ to guests)beside a busy bar.

With many bars and restaurants on the same street getting the green light for outdoor seating / service, and with pedestrianisation of the street starting a week after Pride, probably the second largest festival in Dublin, it’s hard for it not to come across targeted.

I had one of these people shout at me about noise from the bar (and threaten the bar’s licenses) while I was painting a mural at the back of Street66 in 2020, when the bar had literally been closed for about 4 months because of Covid and was already struggling to survive.

Difontaine, Zaytoon & Spar all had outdoor seats. Spar sold out of loads of alcohol & people sat on their outside seats drinking. While other people sat all along the curb outside Street66, & on the bike racks. Either with no drinks, cans from Spar, or drinks from the other bars.

What seemed to strike a chord was the randomness of it. “She was just going for a run”. It could have been any of us. It could be any of us. Just weeks after Sarah Everard’s murder in UK, who was just walking home after a night out, we were shown we’re not even safe in daylight.

As women we take precautions all the time for our safety, most we don’t think about, just do on autopilot because that’s what society has taught us. We make sure friends aren’t walking home alone at night, take taxi numbers down, tell friends to text us when they get home safe.

The last few years it’s been going down O’Connell St & turning left down the quays. With the size of crowds the parade attracts, this is a major safety issue, with people squashed onto the skinny paths of the quays, many sitting on the Liffey walls with their arses hanging over.
