Our brains have a tendency to overestimate threat because it was advantageous for our ancestors to be safe rather than sorry in case of danger. In other words, if you're anxious, your brain is doing what it has evolved to do. And it's definitely not your fault.

The fear of not being believed is often greater than the perceived consequences of not reporting sexual assault. That’s one of MANY reasons victims/survivors don’t come forward. It’s really not that difficult to understand.
