Great to see the issue of pre-application supervisor contact being highlighted as contributing to inequalities in doctoral admissions. We also found this in the Close the Gap project at Oxford and Cambridge and are trying to find sensible solutions at the moment.
Late responses to PhD applicant enquiries and lack of signposting could contribute to poor ethnic minority representation at doctoral level, according to research by @EmilyFrascatore and co.

More Mickey Mouse degree culture wars nonsense from the Tories. As usual they are unable to actually name specific degrees and can only define them in terms of outcomes and drop out rates. The problem is that apprenticeships have a far higher drop out rate than any degree program.
'What are the sort of degrees you could seek to halt?'.'That's not for me to say. '.'I think my listeners would like some examples.'. Schools minister Damian Hinds says that he would ban 'Mickey Mouse degrees', but won't say what those degrees are. @NickFerrariLBC
