Music Education is holistic education. It’s music education, social education, community education, personal education, emotional education, well-being education, creative education, discipline education, and life education. Music Education helps prepare young people for life.

When a child leaves class to go to a music lesson or an ensemble rehearsal, their education is undoubtedly impacted. It’s impacted in the most wonderful, long-lasting, and beneficial way.

The benefits of music can be found everywhere - in the music room, the concert hall, the rehearsal room, the playground, the classroom, the family home, and the community. Music isn’t just a subject at school, it’s something that permeates every aspect of life and learning.

Try telling the child who feels like their voice is only heard in choir. Or the child who needs their instrument to communicate their emotions. Or the child who only feels comfortable when they’re making music. Try telling them that music isn’t important. Music is important.

Just had a new Ukrainian child in Year 2 with no English who was able to play recorder with the rest of the class purely by watching and listening. They got to join in when in the rest of the school day I imagine they often feel lost. Inclusion through music. (1/2)

Music Education isn’t just for those who go onto study music. It’s for those who join community ensembles, for those who make music at home, for those who support local artists, for those who jam with their friends, and for those who use music to unwind. Music is for everyone.

Every week I go to rehearsal with the weight of the world on my shoulders, and every week I go home from rehearsal feeling as light as a feather, momentarily cleansed of life’s troubles. The importance of music to health and well-being cannot be overstated. How wonderful it is.
