The Java Stingaree, a rare species of ray known only from a single specimen collected in 1862, has been declared extinct by an international team led by Charles Darwin University. This marks the first marine fish extinction due to human activity. 😢 #BiodiversityCrisis

The gillnet fishers were curious to see what we did, so we ended up teaching them how to handle & release the fish safely back to the water. You go, Sir! 💪 #bycatch #release

Last week, we went along with gillnet fishers in Karimunjawa. There were 7 juveniles wedgefish caught! We used this opportunity to practice capture-mark-recapture method and quickly return them back to the water #EPI #RhinoraysProject
