At a time many live in poverty, minimum wage is at a paltry N70k, professors earn N500k a month with the education sector in total logjam, doctors are poorly paid and with many leaving in droves, just one official is paying $5m on secondary school fees. This is just one person.

It’s only in Nigeria that a President—a powerful person, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces—will issue an order withdrawing police from VIPs, and politicians will refuse to comply, such that a team has to be dispatched to roads, checkpoints, hotels, etc., to monitor compliance.

Let us see from now till the next 6 months or a year whether such orders will be followed to the end. Tinubu appears serious with this order. It remains to be seen whether it will succeed or not. If it doesn’t, we will gather and report to Oga Trump of America. You go fear fear!

Be that as it may, it’s one thing to give orders; it’s another to follow them to the end. This isn’t the first time such orders have been violated. Every IGP comes with the news of the withdrawal of officers from VIPs/checkpoints, only for the hitherto status quo to later resume.

You can’t be taken as a serious nation when insecurity—worsened by the duo of bad governance and bad politics—is crippling the country, yet there are more elephantine numbers of armed men in VIPs’ residences than on the streets where it truly matters.

In all these, no one seems to be talking about the downtrodden at the lower end of the social ladder—the common man in ā€œUnknown Gunmen’sā€ Nnewi, Shekau’s Bama, Turji’s forests, etc., whom Tinubu wants to provide security for. They only care about themselves.

The issue has now become a topic of discussion in the National Assembly. A sitting senator openly called for the withdrawal of police attached to the President, Governors, and Ministers, only after discovering that his own security had been withdrawn.

I won’t delete it, Sir. Please block me. For your information, I’ve even muted the tweet. Also, I’m not your ā€œguyā€ Sir. If you find it unsavoury, block me and rest. You can also ask many others that tweeted it to delete theirs as well. I used to respect you. But not anymore.
