A bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison but still a very interesting perspective on the transportation of energy. Thank you to @IEA for providing this report with a lot of useful insights!
The shift from fossil fuel imports to clean technology imports can improve the resilience of energy supply A large container ship of solar panels can provide the means to produce as much electricity as the gas from over 50 large LNG tankers or the coal from over 100 large ships

5) Realistic and comprehensive project schedules for deploying new nuclear in new countries like Norway, including steps like setting up a competent regulatory body and all licencing processes (site, technology, production, spent fuel storage etc). #nuclearsympo

4) Better understand the supply chains for critical nuclear components and the different uranium types including Haleu. Which #SMR require which fuels? What is the outlook for western players to break Tenex' hold on this market? (Source: @BloombergNEF, @bnefnuc) #nuclearsympo

2) How is nuclearโs future revenue outlook impacted by the 500-600GW of new solar power being installed yearly, pushing daytime prices toward zero in more and more hours, in more and more regions? (Chart from NEM, Australia.) #nuclearsympo

Looking forward to this week's World Nuclear Symposium #nuclearsympo in London. Some of the topics I hope to learn more about, in light of intensifying energy transition discussions in Norway and elsewhere: 1) Understand this picture better (source @BloombergNEF):

NOK24mrd er estimert fjerningskostnad for atomreaktoren i Halden. Den produserte altsรฅ aldri strรธm men noe varme, og sikkert mye god kunnskap. Noen husker sikkert ogsรฅ at de ble tatt for รฅ lure kunder med falske data. Ville vi hatt bedre systemer i dag? https://t.co/3RgWc4hVUe

Futher reading? I welcome suggestions here, but would also like to recommend 1) @BentFlyvbjerg's book How Big Things Get Done, 2) @MLiebreich's @CleaningUpPod episode 116 on SMRs and 3) @shaylekann on @CatalystPod 16 Feb 2023: https://t.co/AzOThk3uY1

Summary? I'd like to hear your thoughts, focusing on the financial side of nuclear power projects (others should focus on the technical stuff, thankfully).

92 projects abandoned after construction had "officially started", measured from the concreting of the base slab of the reactor building. Many more projects have been cancelled at earlier stages of construction/site preparation. https://t.co/Sc5lYlS298

Quote from @nuclearreport 2023: "Experience shows that having an order for a reactor, or even having a nuclear plant at an advanced stage of construction, is no guarantee of ultimate grid connection and power production".

While everybody have heard about Chernobyl, Fukushima and Three Mile Island, how many know about the numerous other multi-billion dollar nuclear power projects that since the 1970s have been abandoned, for a variety of reasons? Data from @GlobalEnergyMon and @nuclearreport

In this short thread I glance at a handful of abandoned or failed #nuclear projects. Disclaimer: While I am NOT a nuclear expert, I think it is safe to say future project developers and financiers should read up diligently on the topic of what lies behind these failures.
