Last month I had a public conversation with Ed King (University of Bristol) at the Knowle West Media Centre. It was part of an event titled “What if...? Seeds of tomorrow growing today”. (photo by Ibi Feher) The session was streamed live. More: https://t.co/XlXHT5RZiM

Curiously, it was only a couple of weeks ago that I printed a hard copy of the thesis. It's interesting to flip through it outside a screen. For those not willing to read hundreds of pages, there's also the summary of the thesis again: https://t.co/qAJNKbblvW

I posted something then, but was still waiting for the thesis to be published by Northumbria University before I shared the PDF. Now it's out anyway. Here's the link: https://t.co/mUU4hoNtKD

It's been over a year since I defended my thesis, or as it's called there, had my 'viva voce'. Some months later I would submit a final version, with great improvements suggested by the examiners. And on May 1st this year, I received by email confirmation of the PhD degree.

Subsequently, I was left with the summary without knowing exactly what to do with it. It is too long to be submitted as a typical conference paper, and arguably too broad to be a book chapter. I ended up editing it a bit further, and finally decided to post it openly in my blog.

The resulting text would be handy when editing the thesis, reminding me what the main elements of the whole research were. I submitted the final version of the thesis in March, and my degree was confirmed in May.

I, however, struggled for a couple of months trying to find the best way to work on those improvements. My brilliant supervisor Dr Nick Spencer offered a suggestion during a call: “start with a blank document and summarise your research”. I did just that.

After my Viva Voce, the examination board required me to apply modifications to my thesis as a condition to awarding the doctoral degree. I agreed with all the recommendations, as they would make the thesis more robust and clear.

My trip to New York City in early July was truly inspiring. Since then, I tried a few times to write a short post about it. I failed on the "short" part. There is simply so much to say about open source and society that I wrote a longer text: https://t.co/sysNQNi8Kd

And always good to reconnect with people who were important in my career. The full text of my submission can be read in the research wiki:

I'm in Campinas this week for #ESOCITE, a conference on STS in Latin America. Yesterday I presented the https://t.co/WK85tWODiU co-design lab, part of my PhD research. It's gratifying to be back at UNICAMP, where I got my Master's Degree ten years ago.

I recommend the book for the other chapters as well, but my text can also be found on my website:

This week I received my hard copy of the book Driving Design Volume 2, edited by the @distributeddesign platform. I'm honoured to have a version of my text about the semente toolkit, “Seeds of Digital Reforestation”, included as a chapter.

But I'm obviously willing to send the text to those truly interested in reading and giving honest feedback. Text me here or wherever you can find me on the Internet, and I'll send a PDF of the current version.

The current version has been slightly expanded. Parts were rephrased or replaced. I'm fighting against my natural impulse to post the whole text to my research blog, as parts of it might be part of future academic publications.

As some people keep asking me about the research, however, recently I decided to work on another piece. Its origin derives from a suggestion from my supervisor Nick Spencer last year: a summary of the research, to guide the modifications recommended by the examiners.
