“The possibility of suffering being redeemed by art, being made meaningful and thus real … is still vital to me. Art reminds us of the uniqueness, particularity, and intrinsic value of things, including ourselves.” —Reginald Shepherd, “Why I Write” https://t.co/jgoBK5MVvG

I am proud of these students and the community they have forged. I am reminded of Baldwin’s words in TEOTNS that we discussed yesterday in class: “I was acting, after all, on the moral assumptions I had inherited from the community that had produced me… /4

These arrests are antithetical to the mission of higher ed. Our institutions exist to foster robust exchanges of ideas & open dialogue in service of knowledge & understanding. Sometimes that includes open dissent. Peaceful campus protests should never be met w/ violence.
@MiddleEastEye Here’s @EmoryUniversity economics professor Caroline Fohlin knocked to the ground with her head on the concrete. Her glasses are thrown off. She shouts “I’m a professor” #Gaza #Protesters
