Me and Charmander (who my 8 year old gave me for good luck) in full flight explaining why competition law should take public law seriously. Look at me wave that pen! Thanks to ⁦@ucl⁩ for hosting a great Competition Law 2.0 conference.

The only thing hotter than the weather in Oxford today was the intellectual discussion! Thanks, for showing me around, Aileen, and for being so generous with your ideas and insights.

A word hard/play hard situation this week with Gabrielle Appleby @UNSWLaw in town to work on our co-authored article on the idea of the ‘fourth branch’. Very early days, but great to talk to @mikepalcanada, Liz Fisher & @edwardmwillis about the topic.

Improving New Zealand's regulatory quality would be hugely valuable, but the Regulatory Standards Bill is fundamentally flawed. It won't improve regulation, and will only cause problems, unless it's fixed.

Academic duty calls…. As New Zealand considers whether it’s mergers regime is fit for purpose, it time to see how the rest of the world is thinking about these issues.

In my view, retrospective legislation is bad, actually. Parliament should not be enacting legislation that retrospectively interferes with ongoing litigation without an overwhelming justification.

Thanks everyone for the kind words. My little boy is fine, thankfully, and there should be no lasting effects. We are very lucky. If you have children of your own, give them a hug from me.

Two weeks ago, my son was hit by a car when crossing the street. I thought I had lost him forever. Today he turned eight. It has been a very emotional time for us but we were so happy to be able to celebrate today. What an amazing little person I get to share my life with.

Hello NZ legal twitter, can anyone please tell me what the prospective penalties are likely to be in the Simons v ANZ Bank and ASB Bank litigation (assuming the proposed retrospective provisions of the CCCF Act are not enacted)?.

I think inconsistent approaches to the OIA are much more common than people realise. Gwen Hamilton and I made the exact same request to different Ministers and analysed the very different responses we received in a journal article.

Thanks @NZQandA . “A credible government doesn't need to rely on these sorts of tricks if it believes in its policies. [If it] believes in its ability to govern the nation effectively, then it should use the standard processes that we all expect it to”.

I will be on @NZQandA this weekend speaking about why this is so constitutionally concerning.

I cannot condemn in strong enough terms the National-led government's use of urgency in the House to retrospectively invalidate 33 existing pay equity claims. In my view it amounts to constitutional abuse of the legislative process. We deserve better.
