@aarickawash When another grad student’s father died unexpectedly, we collected money for a Southwest gift card so our friend wouldn’t have to spend as much to fly home. I try to think of things that are simple and practical. I also tell people over and over that I’m available to talk.

A q for those who are grieving or who have grieved from losing a loved one: what is something someone has done for you that really made a difference in your healing process? What truly helps?

@aarickawash When my brother died, my co-workers collected restaurant gift cards. I was 22 and still living with my parents, and it was so nice to not have to think about making a meal and to get to spend that time with them. I’ve tried to pay this forward.
