After 1807, increased pressure was also put on enslaved women to produce the next generation of enslaved workers. Boys 8+ and young men were also trafficked to the Caribbean to become soldiers in the British Army post 1807. It's complex history, so come on tour and find out more

As part of this mission, the British went on to take Trinidad and what became Guyana. These 'new colonies' allowed for abolition of the Atlantic slave trade and instead encouraged the regional slave trade even after 1807 from other colonies

Haiti led the way in August 1791, followed by St Lucia, Grenada and St Vincent. The British couldn't beat the Haitians and withdrew by 1798. The rest of the forces, led by Scot Sir Ralph Abercromby, concentrated on reenslaving people across the Eastern Caribbean

Britain sent a huge military mission to the Caribbean in the 1790s, as part of the French Revolutionary Wars. Forces were sent to reinstate enslavement in many Caribbean islands where people had liberated themselves or were close to creating a republic free of enslavement
