Endless visa applications for conferences;.tons of paperwork to maintain legal status;.Unexpected restrictions on work and extra complexity for tax. People inpatiently asked why I always had this or that non-academic problems, I said not being a citizen is not my fault.
Do US citizens understand how stressful it is to be an immigrant scientist in the US?. Far from family/friends, never ending visa bureaucracy & payments, constant fear of not being allowed back in the US, or being forced to leave your home/job/PhD due to some ban.
