Reminder: "hate crime" is a criminal category created by the US state (um, the FBI) to *isolate / individualize* violence that often has origins in the behavior of the state itself (policing, war, presidential rhetoric, etc). It's a lazy term that is used wrongly & too often.

In case anyone has it twisted, the Minneapolis police leadership testifying against Chauvin is not "justice." It is a sacrificial approach to DEFENDING the *legitimacy of* and VINDICATING *public confidence in* the police as the primary institution of domestic war. #Abolition

Sooooo many academics brand themselves "abolitionist" when their actions, positions, and scholarship are utterly reformist and undermine the collective work of actual abolitionists. It's opportunistic and extractive.

The danger of the Chauvin guilty verdict is that one successful prosecution will overshadow thousands and thousands of non-prosecutions, past present and future. The problem is police *power*, not individual cops. MN Attorney Gen said it himself: this verdict "is NOT justice."
