In the Old #Indo_European languages, as a rule, Nom. pl. = Vok. pl. e.g. Sanskrit राजा॑नः 「rā́jān-aḥ」,.Greek βασιλῆες 「basilê-es」,.Latin rēg-ēs, all “kings”. But #Old_Irish o-stems constitute an exception to this:.fir “men”, Nom. pl. < *wiroi.firu, Voc. pl. < *wirōs 🤯

The #Greek ‘Dative case’ is a merger of the PIE Dative & Locative. The consonant-stem ending -ι (as in ὄντι here) is actually the PIE Loc. sg. ending (=Sk. satí);.for o-stems it can be seen frozen in certain ‘adverbs’ : οἴκοι "at home", ἐκεῖ "in that place", ὄποι "where".
