How does HS math prepare students for college math? What can we do to optimize success? It's a great question - one that we now have a lot of data about. It's complicated & easily-misinterpreted. And what those data reveal is pretty astonishing. Buckle up.. 1/18

Love what's going on in Maryland - and the bipartisan support its getting.
Maryland is taking action to improve math achievement. The new state policy strengthens instruction, expands advanced math access, and ensures all students receive the support they need to learn the fundamentals and achieve success. Great news!

Loved getting a shout out from @DrEugeniaCheng during her opening plenary at #NCTMCHI24. Here's the #TEDx talk she mentioned - that when we just tell students what's true mathematically we are enabling authoritarian tendencies. https://t.co/fyyRk8CR3p

This month's Kung's Quarter on @maanow MathValues takes a break from policy and veers intensely personal. How are Taylor Swift, teenage swearing, Platonism, and the professional hazards of being a mathematician related? https://t.co/WqkrcnAGwg

@CCRC's @meikled_john has done amazing work to answer this question - and many more (including the comparing access to dual enrollment by race). https://t.co/cf5Ka9NKn0...

I was an outlier in high school - I took college math classes before I graduated. And I was the only one in most of those classes. Things have changed. What percent of community college students do you think are still in high school? Take the poll, then click thru...

I prosecuted sex predators. Trump is one. I shut down for-profit scam colleges. He ran one. I held big banks accountable. He's owned by them. I'm not just prepared to take on Trump, I'm prepared to beat him.

Both major parties were putting forward candidates who were clearly unfit for the job as President. It says a lot about the reactions of both parties (and candidates) that the Dems vocally pushed back and Biden stepped down. Feeling more optimistic than I have in a month!

Two things I believed: 1. Students start out in a variety of places, some far ahead of others. 2. Students learn at a variety of rates, some whipping through content, others .. not so much. Data sugges one of these is wrong. Read more... @maanow

From Georgia to Ohio to Utah to Oregon to Washington state, see how these states, and others, are updating math courses to align with the data skills that students need to stay engaged and competitive in college and beyond. Check out our latest blog: https://t.co/JhjwTVBOVt

I'm still thinking about standard algorithms and their impact on student thinking. Here's a nice deep dive into how standard algorithms can actually impede student reasoning and understanding. https://t.co/eGYFw0fA7u
