Keep calling out people who work in generative AI - speaking from experience, it actually works. My friend's mum was, I suppose, a very early AI hater. In 2012, I sat next to her at dinner and told her I was working on AI music. She was direct: "I hope you fail." I had a few

AI people don't understand what copyright is. Cameras, lenses, paints, brushes, software, and paper are tools and materials, none of them 'contains a copyright'. They also can't generate previously copyrighted things spontaneously for you. Books, tutorials, and museums are all

I was thrilled to give the opening keynote at CISAC's first Creators' Day yesterday. Sharing the text below as a short essay on where I think things stand in the fight for creators' rights in the age of generative AI. ---- In 2015, there was a small AI team at a major tech

A genuine win for creators worldwide with the release of the USCO report which supports the protection of copyright in training AI systems… and then Trump fires the Register of Copyrights, Shira Perlmutter because he didn’t like the findings #MakeItFair

If you’re a musician/composer/artist/band etc and have a @SoundCloud account, I’d urge you to consider whether it’s worth keeping your music on there. I’ve just deleted mine as they seem to be using the data to train AI systems without our permission. 🤬 #music #production

Please read @RichmoMusic today @thetimes. He is SO right. Many in creative sector feel deeply let down on many fronts from music ed to AI and the extraordinary misjudged Govt proposal re the opt out. But getting rid of DCMS is not the answer. @ISM_music

A great show of support for our creative industries today! Creators and leaders from across the arts and MPs of all stripes have joined forces to send a loud and clear message to Government: AI firms must not be allowed to steal the work of our creators and music businesses.

Brilliant to see so many leaders in music, the arts and politics come together this morning, united by a clear message to government - Don't let AI steal our creativity. #MakeItFair

It’s true! AI will be a great tool for many reasons, but whatever your role in the music industry, be aware of the dangers and fight for fairness. In this new era, let’s stand together to ensure AI is used ethically and responsibly. Creators must be paid for the use of their work
@drury_rachael ‘You can be anyone in the music industry and this will affect you’ - @drury_rachael Government decisions on AI regulation will have enormous implications on our creative industries. They must get it right.

Thank you for having me to talk about a key issue for the music industry that is such a passion of mine! @ISM_music @DeborahAnnetts
Last panel session AI - friend or foe. Brilliant synopsis from Rachael Drury on what is generative AI and how it takes creators work without permission or payment to compete against creators who made the work in the first place @ISM_music

Just given my speech @wfpevents Read it @ISM_music & share. Disturbing stmts by Matt Sinclair who claimed AI scraping was just learning. He wants option 3 which reverses way copyright works so burden is on creators to opt out. My view - if tech cos want creators stuff they must

The entitlement that some people feel they have to creative works like music and art baffles me. You wouldn’t walk into a furniture shop and take a table. You wouldn’t take an iPhone from an Apple store. These products have IP too. Perhaps tech execs just don’t understand IP?

The arrogance and self-importance of these tech companies is extraordinary. Even the govt's favoured opt out is not enough. Read @thetimes today. They want to be able take whatever they want without payment or permission. Outrageous @ISM_music
