One should not merely try to write a Boolean expression mixing AND and OR in the first 30 minutes after a holiday. Start simple. One AND. Maybe two. Mix in a few useless parentheses. Then another an OR expression. Remind yourself why they don't work together.

My new favorite dumb thing I keep doing is leaving show execution plan on when generating data in a loop in SQL Server code. Even SSMS 21 is like "um, this is a lot of execution plans, why are you, ahhhh." Luckily, after I mourn the loss of my connection, it starts back up :).

The most mixed feeling events in my life go like this. - I find a mistake I think I made.- I say to myself “I think I was wrong”.- Then I realize I was right that I was wrong.

I searched “drsql regex” on google and AI said it may refer to the series I was writing. Did NOT offer these in the links that followed but in the AI Overview it had some links… I clicked on “Simple pattern matching” and poof, I am no longer a writer, but a SQL environment.

Before it was ever announced, I thought the value was going to be all about REGEXP_LIKE. I don't think I will use that more than very occasionally (the LIKE operator works really well ). But the other functions feel more useful because other base string functions are so limited.

Up to 7 parts now in my RegEx series on my blog. The next entries will cover all of the functions that I haven't covered yet (REGEXP_LIKE and REGEXP_MATCHES have been used so far). Love RegEx in SQL Server, its way different than I thought though.

If you had asked me how you write a snippet in @redgate #SQLPrompt, (like in an interview?) I could not have answered. But when I needed some repeated code, it all came back to me like a flood :).
