I’ve learned that not everything has to be so deep. I haven’t yet learned how to not make it deep, but definitely have heard it’s possible.

Even when an opinion is unpopular, there's a comfort and righteousness that comes from feeling certain. But being willing to be uncertain, to look for exceptions to your own rules, to hold ambiguity and multiple truths at the same time. that's what we need more of.

What's harder than taking a firm stand, even an unpopular one? Sitting in the messy, imperfect nuance. Being willing to tolerate that there are no easy answers and rarely is something (or someone) all good or all bad.

“Sorry this story is so long! You don’t need all these details.”. “Oh, I absolutely do.”. My love language is them wanting all the context.

Sometimes it sneaks up on me how weird it is to be a therapist. I'm like how was your holiday? Good? Great, now pick up on how your dad abandoned your mom when you were four.

So much respect to fathers breaking generational cycles and rejecting patriarchal norms by: . - going to therapy to be better humans .- equally dividing labor at home .- rewriting their internal scripts about what masculinity means . You are healing your families & the world.

Thinking today about the solo mothers parenting kiddos without available or healthy dads. They have the hard and tender work of holding the feelings of their little ones on a day like today, while managing their own grief. Love to you.

I'm not sure if everyone knows this but women's health isn't just babies and menopause. It's also heart disease and burnout and bone health and PTSD and a million other things. We have pretty complex bodily systems, in fact.

"But I don’t want to be afraid to lose him.".Oh, darling, love is nothing if not:.I am so terrified of losing this. I am so grateful to have something I’m so terrified to lose.

Every time I compliment my 4yo on how cute her ponytail looks or how great her drawing is, she looks me dead in the eyes and says, “I know.” And this is why she’s my greatest teacher.

A sincere thank you to all the teachers and school staff who facilitated flowers and crafts and cards for moms. I know you are used to filling in all the gaps for society, and it’s generous of you to cover Mother’s Day too.

Me the therapist: Your value is not defined by how much you produce. **Taylor drops double album.**. Me the therapist: Yeah, nevermind.

I have zero interest in hearing about your morning routine, your condensed work week, or any other productivity hack you've used to be "successful" without also hearing about what women in your life have helped to make your accomplishments possible.

When we are struggling, sometimes others' joy can be a profound trigger for our own pain. It's hard to see others delight when we are grieving or fearful or suffering. Strength is acknowledging how hard it is and still letting joy live in the light.

I read that all people who are experiencing infertility should be considered grieving parents, and I felt that deeply.

Let's talk Age Gap Friendships. Do you have a close friend in another generation? What gifts has that relationship given you?.

One of the greatest gifts of my life lately has been having friends who are women in different ages and seasons of life. It's offered insight I didn't realize how badly I needed. It's given me compassion for my younger self and perspective on what matters for my future.

Asking for clarity doesn't have to be complicated, and it doesn't require apology: . "I'm not fully grasping what you're saying and I really want to understand. Can you explain more?" . "What you're saying is important. Can you clarify it?".

What I'm working on lately: committing to asking for clarity when I don't understand what someone is saying. Not trying to figure it out later. Not seeing if I can piece together clues. Not making my own assumptions or about what someone is trying to say. Just asking.

It's no wonder that as women we struggle to find our own pleasure, because we confuse it with pleasing. We've only been taught to notice the latter.
