Important paper for psychology training. We desperately need more expertly trained mental health providers. But getting this training requires the privilege to access other funds, whilst being paid below a living wage.

3/3 Stop focusing on balance Do what you value. Prioritize what is most important to you, deep within your heart. Do that as often as possible. When you are living the life you value, balance isn’t something you need to worry about.

2/3 But “balance” here isn’t a noun. It’s a verb. Like trying to control spinning plates while riding a unicycle. It’s exhausting and no matter how amazing you are, you can only do it for so long before you drop a plate or crash to the ground.

1/3 Balance is Bull$hit . Working moms (cuz really we are the prime target of this lie) are enticed to believe happiness & success will happen when we achieve a perfect state - holding work in one hand & family in the other, at equal levels.

Acceptance without self-compassion is really just avoidance in disguise. “Toughing through things” often means telling ourselves we aren’t really suffering or don’t deserve to take a break. This may outwardly look like acceptance, but inside it’s just the opposite.
#Acceptance is not about white knuckling our way through discomfort and toughing things out no matter how much it hurts. It is about making space for our pain so that we can approach it with curiosity and #compassion, and respond to it in a way that moves us toward our #values.

That moment when you realize the battery has died on both your phone and your laptop and you have a 45 minute train ride with nothing to do but stare at the seat back. I put in my air pods just so I wouldn’t creep out my seat mate. They aren’t playing a damn thing.
