When looking at the reasoning from GPT-5, you can see some bizarre stupid reasoning, but the end output is still good. I wonder if those are just bad branches in the tree of thinking, and if they can be avoided in the next model upgrades - there is more progress to be made.

And no, the solution is not to align models to have these things by default, because then you make them less flexible for the elders or you will make to many assumptions in the user request and he will still not be satisfied. It’s like people are expecting their minds to be read.

To clarify, in my opinion GPT-5 is really good. But you can’t see it if you are using it like an average person. A 5yo kid doesn’t know if university material is better or not, it just wants tasty ice cream - and will still complain “why no tasty ice-cream” while in fact his.

To iterate; you cant really make something better if it’s already perfect. Since gpt-4 was released 2 years ago after 3.5 we already reached 99% of perfect basically. The reasoning is just an internal multi call wrapper anyways.
