PS - am aware Lp(a) testing is very popular is USA and in the prevention circles, so am expecting vigorous defence of Lp(a) testing!. I'm for prevention too! Aren't all doctors?.

1) we currently don't have any drugs that can ⬇️ Lp(a) - I know several trials are ongoing. 2) we don't yet know that ⬇️ Lp(a) by drugs will lead to better outcomes. We hope it will, we presume it should, but that's not guaranteed . @mmamas1973 @drjohnm.@DavidLBrownMD.🤷🏽‍♂️. 3/3

So, the argument seems to be that knowing your Lp(a) is ⬆️ will make you pay closer attention to HTN, DM, smoking, weight etc? But shouldn't people be doing that anyway??. What am I missing? . Genuine Q, I don't understand the massive movement to test Lp(a). ?. 2/3

As long as publishing remains such a lucrative business for the journals, the proliferation of poor quality science will continue . I doubt it will stop. But what we can do - must do - is teach how to appraise studies, so future Drs know how to identify such studies too.

All 3 reviewers had similar concerns, so it was rejected. Lo and behold, a few months later it appears in a higher IF journal, with the EiC shouting its praises no less on #SoMe!. Same paper, no change in methodology, same unsound conclusions.

The Methodology of this paper was, I'm sorry to say, fundamentally flawed. Huge gaps in data.Large loss to follow-up.Incomplete echo data.Unclear data analysis.Suboptimal statistics.Conclusion not supported by Results. The journal that invited me to review invited 2 others too. .

⬆️ information ≠ ⬆️ knowledge. We have more medical journals than ever before, publishing more papers than ever before. but to what end?. I reflected on this after seeing a published paper that I had peer reviewed (for a different journal) & recommended rejection.
