Doctors receiving ward jobs for patients they haven't seen from physician associates, who by definition have less medical training than them, so the *PA* can get off the ward to a clinical session??
We have truly gone through the looking glass...
Oh here is also the list of jobs I was given by the reg level PAs when I was busy on call holding the bleep. So they can go to theatre/clinics ASAP.
I had seen none of these patients. And I had to prescribe all these. Not from a consultant or a doctor but a PA.

This makes no sense to me - if you can call yourself Dr at the end of the apprenticeship scheme, have all the same qualifications as a doctor AND earn money whilst learning, why would anyone apply to medicine anymore? To graduate 75k in debt?!

Transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), when performed with care and diligence, can reveal a lot about the valve. TOE isn't necessary in all cases to determine leaflet pathology.

This description of paramedics, nurses & junior doctors as "just 'workers'" comes from a product of the NHS management training system, someone who has spent most of his career in the NHS
This is a great example of the sorts of views that permeate management in the NHS...
Am I alone in thinking it is wrong for consultants to strike? Nurses, paramedics, junior doctors, yes, they are just ‘workers’ but consultants are senior leaders, just like senior managers. They demean themselves by striking.

This is a recurring issue in many NHS hospitals and adds unnecessary stress to staff
My wife is an anaesthetist, both her & surgeons have a nightmare parking unless they're in before 07.40
One day, a surgeon had had enough & deployed a brilliant strategy...
Anyone any advice for a friend who has had one of these slapped on their car this morning? And before anyone offers advice about cycling or walking or public transport to work, not possible when the hospital is 30miles+ away and you have a child to get and pick up from nursery.

My hospital's offering boosters Should I have it? Had 1st 2 doses no problem, as RCTs clearly showed benefit. But booster...based on what? Beyond ⬆️ antibody levels & ⬆️ Pfizer sales, is it beneficial?
I'm also *so* surprised we're rushing into this without proper data
The CDC director, a political appointee, siding with the President, & his pre-ordained plan, against the advice of the ACIP advisors, with 0 RCTs measuring clinical outcomes & no idea of adverse events is not "doing one's job" it is politics > science, precisely what we feared 🧵

True. My 10yr old learning history exactly as I did in 80s...the Romans, Vikings, Battle of Hastings, Crusades, Henry VIII, Tudors, Stuarts...suddenly it's WWI & WWII! Nothing on slavery or British Empire. History should be taught in its entirety IMHO,no matter how uncomfortable.

What's really sad is there must be cardiologist(s) enabling this. If you've performed a major procedure & suspect a complication, why ask a PA to make the urgent call to radiology??

🚨🚨Lost for words again.
The danger that patients, like the one below, are put in when assessed by a PA instead of a doctor can lead to serious morbidity or death.
Is this what we want for our families?
Replacing doctors with PAs will be the medical scandal of this century.
