Talking points from play-off second leg:
– Fightback restores some pride
– Devaney almost pulls off miracle
– Set pieces destroy Reds chances
– Superb Cosgrove shows promise for next season
– Busy summer of change ahead at Oakwell

Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy at end of his press conference: "Can I just say something about Barnsley? I want to give them a big up for supporting Sol Bamba with the T-shirts in the warm-up. They are nice people in Barnsley, you know?"

I became a father yesterday!
Rosie Alexandra O’Kane was born at 6.16pm. She and her incredible mum are both doing really well.
I’m going to be off for the rest of the month now. Take care everyone.
Hopefully I’ll be back to watch the conclusion of Barnsley’s play-off push...
Barnsley played a behind closed doors friendly against Leeds today. Lost 9-1. James Norwood opened the scoring.
Sounds like both started with pretty much their strongest line ups then brought younger players on. No media allowed so I wasn’t there
Imagine if you had told this teenage Oakwell ballboy John Stones that he would play in a World Cup semi-final aged 24. Gutting result last night but great achievement.
Leeds boss Bielsa: "We have to say the opponent was very good, a young team who ran a lot and always tried to play. I say congratulations to their manager and players. It’s an honest team. It is incredible that a team like this is near the bottom of the table."
You - 311 days in drop zone; divisional retention; behind-closed-doors; joint worst start in 100 years; Big Val; 7 wins in a row;6 straight away wins; most direct team Rooney’s ever seen; take a sh*t on the corner flag; vertical, moneyball, hip hop football; play-off-bound - Reds
Hilarious scenes pre-match of Chris Kamara loudly booing Neil Warnock as he walks across the Oakwell pitch.
'I'm just making you feel at home here' says Kammy.

Outstanding achievement from Barnsley. Most points ever, most clean sheets ever, 20 games unbeaten and no home defeats. A thoroughly deserved promotion.
Dominik Frieser: “We know it means a lot to the people to win this game.
I live in Sheffield. My neighbour is a Wednesday fan and I told him we would win and I would score.”
I wasn’t at Friday’s game because my awesome wife and I have welcomed a new baby son into our family this weekend.
Off for a bit now.
Hopefully when I’m back Barnsley are still flying high in the table.
I asked Carlton Morris if he will watch Reading v Swansea on TV tomorrow, with anything other than a home win putting Barnsley in the play-offs.
He said: "I've got a roast at my mum's so no."
#barnsleyfc
Frieser on VI: "He screamed a bit but it was good because we were unbelievable in the second half and we won the game. I have never seen him like that before... We stopped playing after our first goal. He said afterwards that he never wanted to see a first half like that again.
Claudio Gomes 97.6 per cent passing accuracy tonight. I know he isn't as ambitious a passer as someone like Benson but that's pretty impressive in a hectic Championship midfield battle. A good comeback by the young Frenchman after a tough game on Saturday.
#barnsleyfc
Cardiff boss Steve Morison: "They didn't like the fact we beat them. I don't think they covered themselves in glory. They hid the towels on the edge of the pitch, the ballboys hid them up their tops. What happens then is karma comes back to bite you on the arse."
"When I walked out, it was a massive roar and everyone was chanting ‘you Reds’ and ‘Yorkshire’. I loved it. It was a good feeling to know my town is behind me.
“ I remember watching boxing in the Garrison saying ‘that’s going to be me one day’ and now it is. It’s a good feeling"
I didn’t think I’d ever see a more dramatic end to the season than 2013 at Huddersfield, or a bigger turnaround in a season than the 2016 promotion. But I think this is the most astonishing Barnsley season I’ve covered.
MD: “The fans were outnumbered two to one, the players were outnumbered for 70 minutes. But both groups gave everything. The reception the players got at the end was a real sign of how far the football club has come in the last ten months.”
Helik on staying this Jan:"My agent spoke with the club, the club told me they wanted me to stay. I wasn't fighting with them. I feel good here and I need to give something to Barnsley because they gave me a lot. It is my first club abroad. It is my aim to give them good results"
England just finished a European Championship semi-final win with two centre-backs who were in the Barnsley academy (Stones, Maguire) and a right wing-back who made his professional debut as a Reds loanee (Trippier)

Sounds like a bus carrying 50-odd Barnsley fans broke down in Northampton area and the club has paid for a 49-seater coach and a very expensive taxi to get them to Wycombe. Great gesture
Mads Andersen made 2nd most interceptions in Championship this season while he is also in the top ten for clearances.
He has won the most aerial battles of any Barnsley player.
If he cuts out the errors over a long run of games, he could be a superb defender for the Reds.
Ismael singled out Herbie Kane for praise today after coming on at half-time. Rightly so. He was excellent after a tough month of barely playing. This game suited his style and he showed his quality.
Harry Isted released by Luton. He told me last week he wants to come to Barnsley.
Negotiations still done to be done, and Brad Collins’ future also unclear.
One last tweet on a remarkable night. Barnsley were in the relegation zone for 311 days (38 matches) after losing 2-0 at home to Leeds United on September 15. They were in the bottom three until the 91st minute of the final game. Amazing.
I'm told by Barnsley that Cauley Woodrow's celebration was a dressing room in-joke and not meant as an insult to Wycombe.
Still can't quite believe I heard a club's 'chief financial officer' repeatedly shouting 'he took a s*** on the corner flag'.
Incredible numbers by Michal Helik tonight. 17 aerial battles won, ten clearances – and he also made the most tackles. An impressive return to the side for the Polish centre-back.

Poya Asbaghi: "This is a town of people who have got nothing for free they have to put in a lot of work to get what other people get with less effort. It is a charming picture of a town who loves the football club. I am sure we can go against the odds like the town of Barnsley"
Really a pathetic season from top to bottom. It starts with Paul Conway and his disastrous stint as CEO but both head coaches looked out of depth at times, while majority of players have regressed. I’d expect a lot of ins and outs in summer. Major rethink needed.
#barnsleyfc
Goals conceded by Barnsley before Michael Sollbauer’s debut: 54 in 29 games.
Goals conceded after his debut: 15 in 17 games.
Has there ever been a January buy who made such an immediate impact?
Just popping back on Twitter after seeing Barnsley have won again.
They’ve now won 4 Championship games after conceding first this December (7 games) as they did in the previous DECADE (322 games).
10th in league, 3 points off top six - excellent stuff.
#barnsleyfc
Mads Andersen is the first Barnsley outfielder to start every game in a second tier season since Nicky Eaden in 1996/97.
He's made the most interceptions and clearances in the division and won 2nd most headers. Also 5 assists.
I asked Mads Andersen what he was thinking when Barnsley missed some huge chances.
He said: “I was thinking what the f*** is going on?”
Good to have him back
Good news for
#barnsleyfc
. Aaron Leya Iseka has his visa. So both Belgians will train with the Reds during the international break and be eligible to play from now on.
Exeter v Barnsley OFF.
Frozen pitch.
We’re about 15 miles off, after setting off 5 hours ago.
Understand lots of Reds fans already there.
Surely this could have been handled a lot better with more updates through the day. Extremely disappointing.
Cauley Woodrow is a
#barnsleyfc
legend, in my opinion. Top-scorer in 21st century, and in 3/4 seasons. 53 goals a fantastic total and I doubt it will be beaten many times in next few decades. In terms of output over several seasons, the best striker I’ve seen while covering BFC.
Carlton Morris: “Whether I start is neither here nor there for me. I am at the gaffer’s disposal for him to use me as he sees fit. I am just here to serve him His rotation has been working. You can be childish about it and throw your arms around but that is not my character.”
Alex Mowatt is set to play his 150th game for Barnsley v Derby County tonight. First outfielder to do so since Adam Hammill.
Didn’t look like he’d get there after a debut red card then loan.
But he’s been outstanding for 3 seasons and is now 1 of top Championship midfielders
Valerien Ismael: "For me, the best player was Toby Sibbick. It was his best game today. We talk about the strikers when they score the goals, but Toby deserves the reward."
#barnsleyfc
Barnsley have more points than last season and it’s February. 14 games left. Five wins in a row. A point and place off play-offs with a game in hand. Extraordinary. And all of this after the joint longest wait for a first league win of a season in 100 years.
#barnsleyfc
The non-penalty is genuinely mind-boggling. Gregory does not kick the ball and boots Kitching's leg. Referees sometimes miss things like that, but the VAR saw several replays. It's hard to understand.
I think the red card is harsh too but the penalty is the big one, for me.
Gerhard Struber: "I have no words for my feelings. I am so proud of my boys. We fought so hard and made a brilliant game against a big opponent. Now we have the energy for a big party. After that, I must sleep for a week."
It is bonkers that Victor scored once in 30+ games in League One and League Two on loan last season when he can produce finishes like that one and the one at Derby. Massive credit to him and to Ismael for backing him and getting best out of him
#barnsleyfc
9 points adrift with 14 games left in February, 7 at the re-start, 4 after 93 minutes against Forest on Sunday. But Barnsley have pulled off an absolutely incredible escape act.
MDG today: I didn’t know the rules. I was on the barrier and the fan pulled me. I asked the ref why did I get the yellow card? He told me it was because I jumped in the crowd. It wasn’t on purpose but that is the rule. I didn’t care. I was just so happy to win this game.
Barnsley's owners have had (often fair) criticism, including from me. But their 3 full seasons have brought 2 of club's 4 best points tallies ever. Off-field issues a concern, but they are getting it increasingly right with coaches/signings/philosophy. Credit where credit's due.
This feels like a totally different Barnsley team to 5/6 weeks ago. Quina and Bassi obviously big impact but Morris and Andersen up to top speed after injuries then Wolfe and Vita being given a chance. Poya deserves praise for keeping belief and finally finding some consistency
Ismael: "We don't travel five hours here and five hours back to lose...I was a little bit loud in the dressing room. I just told the guys we waste our time if we play like that and we ruin the good work we have done...They changed in the second half and I am very delighted."
Valerien Ismael admits he lost his temper for the first time with his Barnsley team at half-time in Bournemouth but says their second half performance in the 3-2 win was one of their best displays.
Also goal-scorer Dominik Frieser
Alex Mowatt: "Everyone was a bit down in the dressing room because we conceded late and had to see the game out. But I told them we should be buzzing because we won."
Cauley Woodrow on Brad Collins: “After the weekend he was disappointed and, on the bus home from Bournemouth, because we sit together, he said to me: ‘I am going to be unbelievable on Wednesday.’ And he was"
#barnsleyfc
Yesterday James Norwood called me ‘Spade head’.
Despite a lifetime of ‘what do you call a man with a spade in his head’ jokes, it took me almost a day to get it.
I don't think I've ever seen a player improved as much during his time with Barnsley as Mads Andersen.
You would never have thought in 2019, that he would break club record for appearances by a 'foreign' player and become a consistently top performer and captain. Good luck Mads.
A word for Callum Brittain. Fifth assist of the season today for second goal. He is second in Championship for blocking crosses and fifth for successful dribbles. Ticks all the boxes for a wing-back.
I don’t think many people who dealt with Schopp would have anything bad to say about him as a person. Not nice to see anyone lose their job, even if they were not successful. Good luck to him for the future
#barnsleyfc
Norwich boss Daniel Farke: "I am very happy with the win against a top class side. Barnsley are in red hot form with nothing to lose. I am pretty sure my colleague Valerien Ismael will win manager of the month."
#barnsleyfc
caretaker Martin Devaney: "Under me there will be commitment, people running and fighting. I have put that little bit of pressure on the guys to do that. I know what a Barnsley team looks like."
After 43 games last season, Barnsley were bottom of the Championship with 43 points. This time they have 31 more and are 18 places higher in sixth. Remarkable progression.
Duff: “I had to stop training three times n pre-season and ask them ‘what is this?’ because it looked like a group of lads having a kick around. The training sessions look like training sessions now.
“There’s an intensity and demand on each other because they don’t want to lose.”
Poya Asbaghi’s 11-game wait for a first league win as Barnsley boss is now the longest ever in the club’s history. They have not taken the lead under him
Most of Barnsley’s Saturday opponents recently have had at least one more day to prepare for the game than them, but the Reds keep winning. Eight games in 23 days. The fitness levels are awesome. Big credit to the players, sports scientists and physios.
#barnsleyfc
436 days ago Barnsley were booed off after a 2-0 home loss to Cardiff which left them bottom of the Championship, 7 points off safety with 9 games left.
62 behind-closed doors fixtures later, their next game with fans is tonight’s Championship semi-final with Swansea City.
Valerien Ismael's record against sides below the current top nine.
Played: 19.
Won: 16.
Drawn: 2 (Forest away, Derby home).
Lost: 1 (Blackburn away).
50 points from a possible 57.

A minute before KO in Rotherham, I got a call from my partner saying our baby was expected to arrive 6 weeks early. Rushed to hospital. Turns out it will be a bit longer but she should arrive in next days or weeks. I’ll still be covering the Reds for now, but no long trips. HNY!
LUCA Connell is set to play 45 minutes for Barnsley under 21s at Wigan Athletic on Monday and is roughly two weeks away from being available for the first team.
More from Neill Collins here:

I’ve seen reports about John McAtee being potentially recalled by Luton. I understand all parties are currently happy with him staying at Barnsley all season - and that decision has mainly been driven by the player himself.
Anything can happen in Jan but looks likely he will stay
I try to not feel too many emotions doing this job but I am very sad tonight for that Reds team/staff and the fans – all of whom were terrific in my opinion.
A ridiculously cruel and unfair way to lose.
Massive credit to Sollbauer. He looked absolutely desperate to drag Barnsley back into the game from the moment they fell behind, constantly bombing on impressively from CB. Showed huge desire and bravery to win penalty. Struber or Murray, he looks totally committed to Barnsley
After a suggestion that this Reds side are like his old Sheff U, Warnock said the Reds defenders’ direct approach made Chris Morgan look like Beckenbauer. That’s just a go to name for ball-playing defender for Warnock, for Ismael it’s the guy he won a double for at Bayern Munich
Michael Sollbauer: "It was the best decision I ever made in football to join this great club. I just want to have a full Oakwell here soon. It is the most exciting thing to play in a full stadium. I am looking forward to my first full season in English football."
