“It depends” is the most common answer to many IT design questions. It’s not a cop-out — it’s an honest reflection of the trade-offs in every decision. There is no universal solution for every scenario, only calculated choices based on specific needs and constraints.

Tribal knowledge is the information that is undocumented and known only to a few. When knowledge is not shared openly and information is not accessible to everyone, IT teams suffer in many ways. Up-to-date documentation should be a priority.

An architect should be able to go from the penthouse to the engine room. That means translating the strategic direction and vision of the organization to the actual implementation of technology — bridging the gap between business goals and technical execution.

Is it possible to use GCP as a transit network? For example, can data be sent from on-premises or another cloud provider to GCP via a VPN tunnel and then forward the traffic out to the public internet through a NAT gateway? If not possible, are there any alternative solutions?

Interesting work I’ve done this week: - wrote a Python script to manage Azure key vault secrets - deployed a VPN gateway using Bicep Traditional networking knowledge with a new way of deploying resources (infrastructure as code), programming skills and resolving errors. 🤝

I learned this nice feature in Wireshark from a gentleman named Curtis Whipple when I posted to LinkedIn. You can use Wireshark to display a packet diagram. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Layout and select Packet Diagram for Pane 3. You can click the diagram as well.

All OSPF inter-area traffic must traverse through Area 0, right? Not so fast! In my latest post I show how some of the topologies you see in the books are a bit convenient and don't show you the full picture. Find out more in my latest post. https://t.co/orbGN5bCeu

One of the biggest problems we have in our community is the negative comments that are almost guaranteed with every technical post. a) You don't HAVE to comment. b) Is your comment adding value? c) What's the wording of your comment? d) Would it be better to discuss in private?

One of my biggest challenges and joys of transitioning from traditional network engineering to cloud architecture has been the shift in mindset. My work has evolved from being primarily technology-centered to being much more business-oriented and customer-focused.
