It's a very fun course to teach, and I've heard great things from students who've taken it before. So join us!.

We'll talk about love stories, Lancelot and Guinevere, Tristan and Isolde, love triangles, knights errant and damsels in distress.

This first course, "A Fine Romance" is focused on romance, both as a medieval literary genre (we'll get into exactly what that means in the course) and as a modern genre.

These three courses are each stand-alone, so you don't need to take all three, or take them in a specific order: there's no repetition between the three courses, but if you take all three you'll read through all of Le Morte Darthur by the end. Then you'll know the whole thing!

In the Frankenstein seminar today (all about science in Frankenstein) we talked about whether it's surprising that the first science fiction book was written by a girl, whether Victor is a good scientist, and whether science is actually worth it.

We also talked about vampires! We touched on blood drinking as a symbol of physical predation and human vulnerability, on vampires seeming human as a representation of fears of betrayal, and about the spiritual and religious connotations of vampires.
