Progress is not an end in itself.

8/Losing touch with that isn’t progress. It risks amplifying power without consciousness. Power and consciousness are neither mutually exclusive nor correlated. Power is an amplifier, not a sculptor—it echoes our essence as it is, blind spots and all.

7/ To deny that is to overlook life’s own intelligence—an unfolding, agentic source that extends beyond form.

6/ The most powerful “agent” is still the human being—an intricate, sophisticated intelligence we rarely give its full due. @cosmos_inst

5/ AI already enables 90% cost savings - so what excites me is different: an exchange between machine and human that strengthens our ability to act, rather than replacing us.

4/ But the deeper path isn’t about projected exits. It’s about integration—keeping humans in the loop, with interfaces that reveal black-box algorithms and enable us to navigate more consciously.

3/ Automation and agents are useful. I’m glad for what these tools can offer us, and we should keep building them. There’s real value to harvest.

2/ The imagery is almost Matrix-like—biological spawning of superior creatures. It reflects more of our own inferiority complex than technological reality.

1/ AI agents are low-hanging fruit. They’re hyped because they fit into a quasi-religious fixation on being replaced by machines.

8/ I’ve enjoyed those untouched, in-between spaces—places where no stakeholder has planted a flag, and ideas can move more freely.

7/ Personally, I’ve found my home in the peripheries—blogosphere, side-projects, informal dialogues. Work that recycles into the margins, unclaimed by institutional interests.

6/ But still, the neuroticism of academia breeds over-intellectualization. Survival demands rigid identities, closed to experiment or vulnerability.

5/ Human-Centred Computing helps—it brings together people with curiosity and breadth. That rare mix of disciplines creates cracks where light comes in.

4/ For me, the most fulfilling aspect of the PhD has been the flexibility it offers outside the prescribed day-to-day. That space has been more generative than the supposed “work” itself.

3/ Theory and theoreticism become both survival mechanisms and identity anchors. They insulate—but they also suffocate.

2/ A subtle force underlies it all: research must remain theoretical. Step too far into practice and you’re “not a researcher”—or worse, doing something wrong.

1/ Academia is a fascinating place. But the structures of stakeholders, funding, and publication requirements often create echo chambers of neuroticism.
