OMG you guys. We noticed a couple of weeks ago that a female praying mantis had taken up residence in our window box, and it looks like today she got her man. I have never seen this up close and in person, it is amazing!!

Update: she appears to have devoured its entire body. Now that I know she will probably be pregnant and lay eggs, I am a doting grandmother-to-be and will do everything in my power to protect this beautiful creature and her babies.

I’ve decided the praying mantis’s name is Fran. Idk she just gives me 80s mom vibes. Got a few shots with the real camera a little while ago, finally got them on my phone. May we all find inspiration in her and savor decapitating the GOP this fall (figuratively).

Yes, I have heard that they do that after mating but seeing it IRL is another thing entirely!

They are super beneficial to your garden. They eat tons of bugs (aphids, mosquitoes, flies etc.). Congratulations!
