I was raised in the Chicago suburbs and my family still lives in the area. I'm delighted to be closer to them, and back in a town I've always loved. Thanks be to God.

I can't think of the scholarly equivalent to 'write 500 words a day' for reading. Can you suggest anything? A book a day feels like too much. Key is 'modest and doable but also powerful over time.' A book a week? 3/4.

As I think about my research agenda, I find myself wanting to do lots of reading in an area adjacent to, but not directly overlapping with, my primary areas of competence. I'm not a total newbie here, but not an expert. 2/4.

Academics often hear about the magic power of '500 words a day' as a writing target. (I once knew someone who described it as 'the gospel of 500 words a day,' which might be a bit much.) It's been a very helpful target for me in the past. 1/4.
