Most of the meeting today seemed to focus on questions and concerns about the Age Friendly Home Investment Program - which funds repairs and upgrades to seniors' homes Councilmembers have questions about how the money is distributed across town and how seniors get enrolled

Joe Jones wrapped up his comments saying he felt "cheated" by today's meeting since they didn't get deep into finances of the Dept of Aging. Conwell said today was more about operations, finance conversations will happen during budget hearings

Joe Jones also got pretty sharp & sarcastic (in my opinion) when Maurer corrected his mention of "Mrs. Howse-Jones" to "Councilwoman Howse-Jones"

Joe Jones seems fired up today -- he's kind of called out his colleagues who represent wealthier parts of town (he said some people had "silver spoons", he made a big point of stating how he didn't want to offend any of his colleagues earlier)

Joe Jones is back despite the caucus meeting starting in just a few minutes. Jones used most of that time to talk about how he needs more time to talk about the things he wants to talk about with the Department of Aging.

Danny Kelly praised Dir. McNamara for always giving credit for accomplishments to her staff (the people who run the programs, do the work)

Councilmembers Maurer and Slife had some comments about Senior Transportation Connect - mileage limits can prevent some seniors from getting across town Councilmember Slife also asked if Council can get a list of all homes that have received Age Friendly investments

Stephanie Howse-Jones asked about leftover Age Friendly funds in ward 7 (those funds get rolled over to the next year of the program) Howse-Jones said one year money didn't get allocated to ward 7 - Dir McNamara doesn't think that's the case & will follow up w/ Howse-Jones

Joe Jones suggested there should be more funds allocated to wards with greater need. Budgeting evenly across all 17 wards doesn't serve the differences in residents' needs across the city.

Councilmember Gray asked about application deadlines for the Age Friendly Home Investment Program - Dir. McNamara said applications open in August but don't have a deadline. Applications stay open until all of a ward's funds get allocated

Dir. McNamara said the Age Friendly Home Investment Program was funded by capital funds years 1-5, funded by ARPA funds in year 6. Jenny Spencer was concerned that funding dropped from $150k/ward to $75k/ward in year 6 - wants to ensure more money is available in the next budget

Dir. McNamara said they hear concerns from seniors about rising property tax bills Councilmember Spencer says there is legislation regarding property tax relief at the state level -- local state reps are meeting with council TODAY at their 12 pm caucus meeting

staffing levels for the Dept of Aging -- Dir. McNamara says they're looking to hire a part-time volunteer coordinator. Finding volunteer opportunities for older adults came out of of the age friendly Cleveland plan
