25 years ago, I released "Preemptive Strike." The title was in reference to what I felt was a general lack of care for my music on the US label side, and my aim was to compile the earlier Mo' Wax output in a manner of my choosing rather than it happening surreptitiously.
In times of turmoil and darkness, I've always turned to the arts to seek wisdom and understanding. Now more than ever, I am grateful for the powerful minds and voices of
@KillerMike
and
@therealelp
(
@runjewels
).
Hard to believe it's been 25 years today since Psyence Fiction dropped...thank you to
@unkleofficial
for inviting me to the party and providing a platform for some of my best work.

My song with

“Nobody Speak,” has gone Gold in the USA. As momentous as this is in my career, it feels insignificant compared to the litany of challenges facing us at this perilous time. So I’d just like to use the opportunity to remind everyone to please

On this day in 2016, ENDTRODUCING…RE-EMAGINED was released as part of the 20th Anniversary of the album. I was super proud of it, and always felt like these remixes were kind of overlooked. If you never heard them, check ‘em out, they still hold up.

@HudMo
There's a lot of songs I'm proud of and wish more people heard, and this one from 2017 is near the top: my track with the God Nas, originally created for the Silicon Valley show on HBO
I’ve been informed that my second solo album, The Private Press, turns 20 this week…hard to believe. It’s never really had the “deluxe reissue” treatment, so maybe time to start gearing up for the 25th anniversary edition in 2027?
Truly difficult to acknowledge the passing of one of the greats: Trugoy The Dove aka Dave of the legendary
@WeAreDeLaSoul
. Sending peace and comfort to the Jolicoeur family during this time.
20 years ago today, “Six Days” was released. Still consistently one of my most streamed songs year after year. I remember piecing the remix together at the home studio of a former member of the Denver Broncos...super nice guy.
Sixteen years ago today, my show at the Brixton Academy in London was recorded, immediately pressed up to CD, and sold exclusively to fans at the merch booth 15 minutes later. (1/2)
Here I am in '93 with my first ride, a 1977 Cadillac Sedan Deville. This is the car that I drove to every gig, studio session, and record store for several years. Note the Hollywood Basic (my first label) bumper sticker. Shout to
@jazzbeezy
for the photo
The idea behind this video for "The Sideshow" (2016) was to juxtapose static performance footage with increasingly improbable green screen location shots. Director Joseph Armario did a good job with lighting treatments to really sell the effect.
Going back 20 years ago today, it was my pleasure to support the legendary
@MassiveAttackUK
at their gig in Tokyo, Japan. Photo & flyer by Eiki bc I don't even have a copy, lol
Here's a shot from this past Sunday's Portola Festival in SF. Something kind of interesting happened during my set, which I don't think has ever happened to me before. (1/4)
ACTION ADVENTURE
…will be here October 27th!
Here’s a first look at the full track list:
1. Ozone Scraper
2. All My
3. Time and Space
4. Craig, Ingels, & Wrightson
5. Witches Vs. Warlocks
6. A Narrow Escape
7. You Played Me
[1/2]
On this date back in 1999, Unkle's "Be There" single was released (thanks for the photo Eiki). Although recorded too late to make the album, Ian Brown had been at the top of James's wish list, so it closed that loop. (1/2)
To celebrate the release of
#Endtro25
, we want to see YOUR versions of B+'s classic cover photo. Go down to your local record store and snap away; we'll repost our favorites.
As an artist you never know what’s going to reach people, but this clip from the movie SCRATCH really seemed to resonate. People would ask about it and tell me how it affected them for years after the fact.
Thanks for all of the Endtroducing cover photo tribute submissions! Great example here of what we're looking for, capturing the all-important "head turn" blur and depth of perspective. Keep 'em coming!

Announcing the Action Adventure World Tour! That's right, I'm taking the show on the road, beginning January, 2024! Tickets on sale Friday at 10 AM local:
It's been a long time coming, but my first single from the new album is OUT. As a song, "Ozone Scraper" is intended to articulate a feeling of speed, but for the video, I thought it would be fun to tell the story of a humble villager with a very SLOW bike... [1/2]
Instrumentally, I think this is my most cohesive and satisfying set since the 'What Does Your Soul Look' Like EP. It includes a song called "Rosie," which is a kind of 3-part voyage through my evolution as a beat-maker. Please enjoy "Rosie":
Absolutely giddy to be playing back in beautiful Mexico City on December 6th! Presale tickets go live 10/16 and general on-sale is 10/17, both at 11 am local.

Announcing “You Played Me,” the second single from my upcoming album Action Adventure!
I don’t often make songs that I consider to be good candidates for release as a single…i.e., the appropriate length, a fairly conventional yet subtly sophisticated arrangement... (1/2)
On this day 26 years ago, the shooting of the "Midnight In A Perfect World" video was completed, as directed by the one and only
@bpleasel
. One of these days I'll have to digitize the behind-the-scenes footage my wife Lisa filmed.
The latest DJ Shadow Storage Sale is next week! Thousands of records, tapes, CDs, and an exclusive 45, September 16 and 17 at
@rappcats
in Los Angeles...don't miss it!
I guess I began to believe that it would never happen, but at age 50, it did, for the first time. I know it doesn't make me a better DJ, or on an equal plane with the great musicians I admire, but it was a first, so I thought I'd share. (4/4)
32 years ago today, my Lifers Group remix (backed with "Lesson 4") was released by Hollywood BASIC. Promo only because of all the samples. Receiving copies of this, my first appearance on wax, is still one of the greatest thrills of my career. Photo by Dave aka
@TheDJShadowCol1
The thing I’m proudest of, aside from the overall attention to curation and condition, is the facilitation of music discovery. My 5th annual pop-up starts in one hour.

On this date in 1999, Shadow and Cut performed the game-changing Brainfreeze mix, one of only a handful of occasions ever that this set was realized in front of a live audience.

13 years ago, I played an all-vinyl set for KCRW at their Halloween Costume Ball in Los Angeles. Parts of this set can be heard on a limited CD that came out the following year. (1/2)
I had an opportunity to discuss each track from the new album in a series of videos which we're premiering NOW. Starting in reverse order, the first video highlights the final track, "She's Evolving," and why it's one of my favorites. Enjoy!
Today is the anniversary of my most recent album release, Our Pathetic Age. Much of the record was a commentary on modern day media consumption, and I could have never imagined how much more fraught things would become in three short years.
And that's a wrap for the 2022 European tour, many thanks to everyone behind the scenes who made it possible! I'd be remiss if I didn't single out
@PioneerDJglobal
for the continued tactical support, it is always very much appreciated.
Here's one for the true heads- was going through an old box and found Wild Pitch Records' 1992 greeting card with artwork by none other than The 8th Wonder. Happy Holidays, one and all.
This week back in 2011, THE LESS YOU KNOW, THE BETTER was released globally. Regarded by most fans (& myself) as one of the “difficult” albums, although it definitely has some personal favs including “I Gotta Rokk,” “Sad And Lonely,” & the Little Dragon track. What are yours?
Four years ago, Shadow released 'Endtrospective,' in celebration of 'Endtroducing''s 20th anniversary. Demos, live versions, remixes and more, the deluxe CD/LP commemmorated the timeless release.
Music lovers, get ready: my 5th Annual Storage Sale is coming in hot. Thousands of records, tapes, and CDs on sale, curated from my personal stash. October 23-24 in Los Angeles.
On this date back in 1996, I played Hong Kong for the first time with DJ Krush. 'Trip-hop clash' though it might have been, the audience was actually quite thin. Fell in love with the city, though, and have played numerous times since then and always had a good time.
DJ Shadow's groundbreaking debut album, Endtroducing….., has turned 25. In celebration, has released this premium collector's edition, 1,000 piece jigsaw puzzle, available while supplies last.
