Excited to World Premiere at #annecyfestival next month! Been a long journey & I'm excited to share a new teaser trailer with all the awesome voice talents, score by @marcjunker_ & David Parfit, incredible sound design work headed by @thenarahproject & producer @NicoleSorochan!
Used all my life savings to survive 2yrs while I animate 14-18hrs/day, 7days/wk, for the duration of production. Also paid out of pocket thus far spending 35k. Not accounting for my time, budget of this film is 35k. No savings left & need help finishing! https://t.co/JgB2FRdFr3

Final animation vs blender animation. Action scenes usually take longer to animate than dialogue sequences. So I tried to do all the action scenes first, when I had the most energy.

I didn’t expect much of anything, I just wanted to make the movie so anything that happened/happens from it is really just icing on the cake. But yes, currently back to client work but now I have agents who are out their shopping my next film around so fingers crossed for budget
@djaxx After all that work, did making the film open up the opportunities you wanted, or was it mostly back to client jobs? Just asking as a fellow filmmaker who respects all the effort you put in and can relate :)

I basically built upon the same pipeline since my shorts. There were definitely big and small refinements like implementing 3D into my workflow but yes, just building on the same pipeline over and over.
@djaxx Pipeline/workflow wise did you use whatever you had done for the previous projects, or devised something new to accommodate working solo more efficiently? I imagine figuring out the process itself may have been quite the task

I’m a self taught animator/filmmaker so all the bts is usually me thinking about myself as a kid & what would I learn / be inspired from & film it.
@djaxx Amazing stuff, been following your work for awhile. I wanted to ask you about your BTS recording yourself working on your film. What was your plan with bts and sharing your progress online.

Also, don’t take rejection personally. This studio was interested in the Worlds Divide but it just didn’t work out and yet, they still wanted to hang out and invite me to things and just be friends. Amazing time hanging out with them and will still keep in touch.
Also, get prepared for a lot of rejection. Just part of the process. Rejection is just a thing throughout the entire process even to before making the movie.

Just festival submissions. Some festivals give waivers for past participants. As for distribution, still a mystery to me & has changed through the yrs. Recently, it seems distributors want to be apart of your film before the festival run (didn’t know till after) hope that helps!
@djaxx Hi, can I ask how you were able to be selected for festivals or get in contact with distribution companies? Was that just from getting some heat online or did you have any connections prior to this film? Inspiring stuff!

After a long writing week I finally got to paint today. I find this early stage equally boring and relaxing. It’s the finishing that’s the most equally stressful and thrilling. Pretty much the opposite of writing for me. I think there’s a lesson here.

These are look dev concept art screens for potential art direction for the film. My goal was to somewhat try and capture that old retro 90s anime vibe. It’s an idea that stuck to the final version.

Anime studios / parties I got invited to in Japan because of the Worlds Divide. Got to hang out with some legends! Felt surreal being in their presence.

Along with Bataar (The Worlds Divide), I recently had the pleasure of voicing Doctor Doom (Marvel HQ). They’re both VERY different characters but have a few surprising similarities. See for yourself and watch the Worlds Divide 9/15-9/30 https://t.co/jgpZr0ekyr

The process for character animation for a single shot. There are around 1881 shots animated for this feature film. In a single day, I would typically animate around 2-8 shots of character animation. Extremely rushed schedule while trying to maintain quality as a single animator.

I wanted everyone to be paid, it’s the only reason it became a solo animated project. Couldn’t afford animators.
@djaxx Do you pay your tech artist and modeller with your out of pocket money or are they good friends who are happy to collaborate for free? (No judgment, I've done the same as I mentioned)

For worlds divide, I saved up working client jobs. When I had enough money to survive the 2 year process, I started production on it. Expenses for the film were all out of pocket during production. Kickstarter helped for post production. I’m back at the grind working client jobs
@djaxx Hey Denver, can I ask how you get funding for your films? I've made three animated shorts but they've all been out of pocket and balanced between having a full time job and some good friends to work for free.

And this is what focus looks like. Stuff like this always pushes me out of any creative ruts I experience.
