Time for the amazing #DGSScienceClub Advent Calendar Challenge! Each base in "Santa's workshop" had a different task - the answer was a number showing which Advent door to open. Well done to everyone who did all 8 tasks and then unjumbled the letters to find the secret word!

Many hands make light work! We made a cloud of butterflies and an army of caterpillars at #DGSScienceClub today, with help from members of HUGS (our local wildlife group). They will decorate the HUGS Christmas tree in Hagbourne Church December 5-13th.

Today we tried dyeing with natural materials at #DGSScienceClub. Here are just a few of our results, made from cotton or poly cotton dyed with beetroot or turmeric. No one expected that beetroot would dye cotton green!

So much #DGSScienceClub fun from just a small amount of sodium alginate solution. Here are just a few of the beads and "worms" that were made today from adding coloured 2% Na alginate to calcium chloride solution.

Today we started making light up quizzes with a Diwali theme at #DGSScienceClub. Next term we'll connect each question to its answer with a strip of foil, insulated from other strips by tape. Then we can make a lamp light up by touching leads to the correct spots.

So much focus and concentration in the room today as #DGSScienceClub converted cardboard boxes, tubes and skewers into the mechanism of automata toys. Next week we'll add the model and see it move as the axle turns!

#DGSScienceClub know a great way to use some of the apples from the trees in the school grounds - make shrunken heads! Just peel and brush with a mixture of salt and lemon juice, then leave in a warm place to dry. We can use them to keep evil spirits away at Halloween!

Some plants contain saponins, natural soap-like compounds, and you can extract these to make a natural soap. At #DGSScienceClub today each team planned their method and then produced some soap from conkers!
