Seems to me there’s a business opportunity in finding ways to keep our cars from snooping on us. In the meantime, no way in hell I’m buying a “connected” vehicle. https://t.co/5R2y9UZwUa

Connected vehicles now appear to be on the table as a new vector for government surveillance. On Saturday, President Joe Biden signed a bill that reauthorizes Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence...

I also REALLY need to remember that painting isn't so bad. The prep can be a pain, but the actual painting takes very little time, and cleanup, though rarely fun, isn't too bad either. Maybe remembering that will help me procrastinate less on painting.

In the same vein, if you're new to spraying latex paint with an airless sprayer, starting with a ceiling not recommended. IMO, that's where you'll get the most overspray and most difficult to control the pattern. I got good results, but had to do some extra cleanup of overspray.

With the caveat that mine is a very small data set (1 ceiling & 1 wall) I am already of the opinion that an airless paint sprayer is definitely better/faster for larger jobs (i.e. an entire room, or at least multiple walls) while a brush & roller wins for one wall/ceiling.

Weird question...has anyone in my circle bought custom car seat covers? Just got a new (to me) car, and it has black fabric upholstery, and I know that's likely to be a disaster with our dog, who is a shedding machine. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced, quality option?

Is there any other buying process that feels as adversarial as buying a car (particularly used)? Even with a very pleasant sales rep, it’s exhausting and I nearly always walk away feeling like I never want to do it again. How did we end up here?

Makes me wonder what other nastiness exists throughout the house. And makes me more confident in my DIY repairs, by comparison.

The first box I opened included one wire stripped in the middle to jump the hot from one switch to its neighbor, plus wires backstabbed into the cheap switches (allowed by code, but not ideal). Worse yet, the backstabbed wires were covered in paint. Ground wires painted, too.

It's easy to worry when doing DIY projects, "am I doing this right?" But then I take the switch plate off and see the absurd crap the builders' electricians did, and I realize that even if my work isn't perfect, it'll almost always be a net improvement.

A follow-up tip: if you think something is wrong with your fridge b/c a sensor you're using is reporting high temperatures, it's a good idea to validate that sensor with another sensor, before assuming something is broken. Upside is, no spoiled food! And coils are clean (now).

Tip for my handy friends. Went looking online for technical manual for my fridge, which I'd been able to find a couple years ago. No dice. Turns out there's an easier old-school solution. There were paper copies in a pouch underneath the fridge near the coils. Useful, that!
