Ok, i know woodsplitters can be dangerous. But i showed my daughter the dangers and tought her how to do it properly. Helped me for 4 hrs today splitting and piling. To be honest I am more scared of raising lazy kids than i am of the woodsplitter.She is always helping on the farm
Trying to find some agricultural content on twitter.Not a lot of success.I miss seeing frozen water tubs, clean tractors, broken machinery, and livestock! I don't believe federal or provincial government or their party is dividing this country,social media is.

I've never seen so much hype over a winter storm? Warnings everywhere, people panicking. Calling for a foot of snow over 3 days doesn't seem that odd to me for Canada. It's winter!
I don't usually have too many favorites, but this replacement heifer calving for the first this April is becoming one of my favorites. None of these 28 girls ever had grain in there lives and they look great.

These calves selling April 26th in Keady at our
@StockerSale
. I can guarantee these calves are going to take off on grass or in the feedlot. We just frame them out on baleage and hay, lots of exercise, pure muscle. They will do nothing but gain.
These calves are selling in Keady
@StockerSale
April 29th. There is a lot of uncertainty in Agriculture, but one thing is certain, these calves are going to take off when they hit grass. Forage only diet all winter, no implants.
Told dad he should relax today on his 79th Birthday. He looked at me like i had a 3rd eye, lit up his smoke and said "We got straw to haul" They don't make many like that anymore.
Finally have all of the gates installed and welding done on the new portable calving shelter. Figured we would put tin on after we saw how it twisted while pulling. Not much twisting at all. Pulls nice. Start installing tin on tomorrow
My brother is tiling another 100 acres. He might not have cows but he is a huge part of our farm. Cropping with him and renting his land have made it possible for me to follow my dream and be full time beef farmer. Very thankful.
As promised, a better look at our calves selling in the Norther Select Stocker sale
@StockerSale
this spring. And yes, my camera hand was frozen after taking this video this morning. Brutal wind!🥶😄
Hard to believe that the same people who chose to pave over all of this prime farm land and live here have strong opinions on how we manage our farm land up North. I think we are doing a fine job😉
May 18th. Oats, Barley and Canola all in. Only 300 acres. Not sure how people do large scale? I am fed up already. Just have 90 acres of underseeded peas and oats to go. Back to more cow things soon.
The two drivers today were talking with each other calling my calves "westerns". (Said they were similar to
#westerns
). I took it as a compliment but politely corrected them and told them they were "Northerns".

Last group of cattle today. 508 head of cattle (cows, calves, replacements and bulls) through the handling system to get processed last 3 days. Good feeling being done.
This is our first home raised
#Simmental
bull. He is a "G" bull. Wintered outside no special treatment. Hope the future bulls I am raising turn out like this one. Very thick bull (can't see in this pic)
270 bales of green feed baled, hauled and wrapped.....(still wrapping) record day for us. Another 56 bales of dry hay. Tomorrow bale the rest of the rained on dry hay before it gets rained on again.
All done, weaned and dehorned (5 calves with horns)

Gonna be loud for a few days, good time to head south for a
@BeefFarmersON
meeting.
Ivermectin and vaccines for calves and ivermectin for cows today on 1st group. 4 more groups to go tomorrow and Saturday. Calves put on a lot of weight with the later frost.
This 18 acre corner of my brother's property was bush a few years ago. Cropped it a few years. First year making hay. Including 2 cuts, averaged 12.75 bales an acre.
Same on another 28 acres averaged just under 12 bales an acre. Lots of feed this year!
Everyone around talking about the Mennonites bringing in corn on the rail. . I stopped by to talk to them and found out that they are actually bringing in plastic resin to make tile drainage weeping tiles and not corn.😁
@BeefFarmersON
1st annual

My wife made this display for the foyer at her school today. 😊 She is excited to get back in the classroom. I would like to wish all the teachers a healthy and productive year!
Yes, it is still winter up here. Yes, those are my 4x5 hay bales under the snow. Tough winter up here. Planting grain in May or June?? Time will tell, but things need to start changing here in a hurry, and forcast not looking too promising.
