25+ years ago I started off by entering forum-based (vBulletin) design contests. Then, 10-15 years later 99designs became really popular, and much of the design community started spreading this myth that it's absolutely wrong to engage in speculative design work. I disagree.

Got it btw, we're pumping it out. Can't wait to share.
I have my first client discovery call tomorrow morning for branding and UI/UX work. It has been literally... 13+ years. When I quit client work back then, I thought I'd never go back. Now, I can't wait. It's all a part of a larger plan. Excited!

I see this and imagine how many things can break/go wrong. People are going to need to pay a monthly insurance bill for the upkeep of these things. Don't get me wrong, totally worth it, but that's certainly an AI-proof pivot in the future. Fixing robots.

It's also why the roads stink, public education is lacking, and why there's such controversy over law enforcement. These are all public programs that operate as monopolies. Monopolies are bad in the private market, but so too are they bad in the public market.

Something I've pointed out for years. It's also the reason there's such a stigma around DMV employees/Postal workers being rude. It's because they can be, they have no competition. Without competition and a never-ending supply of money (taxation), you can get away with all sorts
The reason government programs are so inefficient is that, unlike a commercial company, the feedback loop for improvement is broken, because they have a state-mandated monopoly and can’t go out of business if customers are unhappy. No matter how bad the service is at your DMV

If your business can't survive without state intervention, your business should not exist. I am 💯% against this. Gross.
BREAKING: OpenAI is requesting US government support to help guarantee financing for the massive investments in AI chips and data centers it needs for expansion, per Bloomberg.

I don't need 2 screens, but it sure as hell helps. Especially when you're working in cursor and figma simultaneously, or figma and jitter, or premiere and photoshop, or [xyz]

"you're exploring an infinite library of other people's work" -- that's what it means to be an artist. No one is 100% original in execution. You are an input/output machine. Your 5 senses take in all of this data every day since you were born, and all of that data influences your
You're not creating anything with AI, you're exploring an infinite library of other people's works and laying claim to anything you find there because you feel like you put effort into the search.

I've been building a lab results analysis tool called Labcoat during the last month. It's finished, with exception to a few minor design tweaks. It uses Google's Gemini for everything (lab result extraction & analysis). It's really good. I'll be showing it off soon. The problem

AI image generation is soulless? That's cope. I've seen amazing AI generated art work. And I've also seen absolute garbage, truly soulless work from human artists.
I like PewDiePie’s take on AI, that AI image generation is soulless and ugly and it’s everywhere, but people who blindly hate anything related to AI are just as annoying

Ah, yes. The almighty degree. The last bastion of credibility and expertise, because no one with a degree has ever been wrong and has never been bought. If only we all had 24/7 access to a huge information database from which we can learn new things. It'd be even cooler if it
